I always get hyped by these trailers.  Then the trailer is the best thing about the movie.

They released a trailer in Japan with a little new footage.  Interesting this trailer is more Godzilla friendly than the US version.

Dumb Monkey is not the preferred nomenclature. Ape Simean please.

Nice. I need to do the same. I've seen 10ish of them. All IM, all Avengers, BP, and I don't remember what else. Should probably do like you and watch them in order.

Started tonight. I'm going chronological for the **** of it. I hadn't seen any of the Captain America movies but so far The First Avenger is really good. Can't wait for more.

We've been sort of obsessed with the MCU the last few months, especially now that they are showing them on TNT on the weekends.  THere's just so much depth to them.  You pick up on things that were connected.... then there's a lot out there to read about references to the comics, etc.

Since we binged them almost nightly they started to run together so going back to ones like Winter Soldier and the first Avengers will be something we do soon. Especially with the new series next month.

I really really like how Strange mentions only one positive outcome out of 14 million.  That helps with getting aggravated by steps the others do that fail to take him down, like Quill gettign upset finding out about Gamora, or  how Wanda almost got him. Then in Endgame the interactions between Stark and Strange  gain new meaning, the look on Strange's face as he holds up one finger or tells him "If i tell you what happens, it won't happen".

Watched Doctor Sleep over the weekend. Not sure what took me so long, but 👍.  Ewan McGregor was a great choice to play a grown up Danny Torrance. In fact, I would say all the casting was terrific.

I went old school and watched "They Live" over the weekend and it was such a fun and cheesy revisit.

I was amazed to see that Meatloaf was in the movie until I realized it wasn't Meat Loaf but in fact Peter Jason.

Nick Fury's headstone in Winter Soldier is why the MCU movies are so good.  I don't tink I noticed it when I first watched a few months ago.  It was on F/X last night.

I don't remember anything about that one.  Ragnorok led to Infinity War so narratively speaking it's important, and we got the funny scene with Thor and Hulk.

It was a good movie IMO.  The casting was good, better than The Gunslinger choice, but King uses current actors in his writing sometime to describe a person.  The Gunslinger is literally compared to Clint Eastwood in his books, that was a huge shock for me and took me out of the movie....grown up Danny was compared (again literally in the book) to Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy.  So while reading the book I see that dudes face, it was not as drastic and I get it, contracts, casting etc, but if you are literally going to say "this guy in my book looks just like 'x actor'" then try not to veer to far from it or do your best to get someone who looks like it.

Doctor Sleep did it fairly well as McGreggor and Hunnam are pretty close, but I can never get over the gunslinger one....that one was just too jarring.

I love the "feel" of Carpenters movies, gritty, and raw.  I feel like not as much time was put into making every shot perfect, which for me adds some realism to his movies.  It feels less like a movie and more like a documentary with other worldly stuff going on.  That is not quite the perfect description, but it is close to how his movies feel for me.

I liked Doctor Sleep. Read the book twice. My wife is now reading.  They did make one major change.

Soul is an outstanding delivery of Pixar excellence.   The soundtrack is fantastic.  Both the Trent Reznor spacy/metaphysical stuff and the Jon Baptiste jazz mix very nicely.

Don't think I read the book, though I've read a lot of Stephen King. What was the change?

Too adult for kids IMO.  My kids are 6 and 3 and they did watch it, but I am not sure how much of it they grasped.  I think we need to rewatch it.  We watched it a couple days after release on Disney+.  My daughter wanted to rewatch it a couple nights ago, but we go on a vote system, she was outnumbered by my boys 2-1.  It was pretty deep for a Disney movie IMO, but I was only half paying attention the first time we watched it.  FTR we are cartoon movie junkies and have seen just about every one that has been releases multiple times, from as far back as Pinocchio (my personal fav as a kid and still today) up to this one.  Which includes the Netflix ones and the Amazon Prime ones.

Its deep and hits on some dark notes.  It never goes to the easiest place.  The fact that he could have had the "does he find his lost love" storyline but they didn't do that.  They didn't make his one night with the star jazz ensemble an end-all, be-all.   His encounter with the barber was the most revealing interaction in his life.  The barber is happy in his skin where he is always looking for something else.

I'd say teens would benefit from watching it and then rewatching it a few years later when they hit college.

I saw a review that recommend it for age 8 and up. There are some pretty deep themes that you will probably have some long discussions with your kids. The music is fantastic. It rinks up there with Up and Inside Out

Spoiler

the girl is Danny's niece.  Her mom was the result of an affair Jack had.

I agree with that.  Even Inside Out was pretty adult themed, but was more cartoony and revolved around a younger main character.  That is another great movie that puts some context into emotions.  I can always tell when one of the movies is too adult for younger kids...my boys will not be into it and my daughter will want to rewatch them.  We have watched just about all of them they put out, but the ones we keep going back to are the ones that are more easily grasped by my boys.  Wreck it Ralph, Finding Nemo/Dory, Toy Story, Tangled etc.
