Pistons Acquire Jameer Nelson and James Ennis

Recommended Posts

Separate deals. Brice Johnson, Willie Reed, and a future second rounder out.

Nelson and Ennis are UFA after the year.

Of course he's a 3pt shooter.  He's the 3rd.  Dad was a 2pt specialist and Granddad was a free throw shooting ace.

Think of Ennis as a very poor man's Andre Iguodala.

Great athlete, can handle, shoot and defend a little.

About what I was thinking...

And I like Ennis too. Under the radar guy like Bullock (for different reasons but...)

Solid moves. Get 2 guys who can come in and play for you right away. I am still concerned about the backup C position though. Moreland is not a good player. And while we can go small with Blake at the 5, it would have been nice to have a traditional backup big-man we could use to spell Drummond every so often.

That's why I was pushing for O'Quinn or Hernangomez... I really wanted to solidify a decent Center backup in case Blake gets nicked up.

I'm fine with Tolliver covering Blake... but wasn't certain what Reed or Brice could do... I guess SVG didn't like what he saw so he moved them for more helpful players...

But that leaves us with Moreland as the only backup Center. Ellenson is NOT yet ready for primetime so... yeah, that's my main concern as well...

they might be able to pick up another big in the buyout market or from the G league. or maybe try ellenson at the 5?  nyah, probably not ellenson.

i like the deals.  nelson cost nothing and ennis cost next to nothing.

I like both deals as well.

Buyout or G-League markets look like the way to go if we need to do that...

Don't see a need now for Felder or Hearns.

So we essentially got Blake, Nelson and Ennis for Tobias, AB and a 1st.  That is pretty good if you ask me.

SVG has played his third-string center so sparingly over the years that it just doesn't make sense for him to spend any real money on one.  Joel Anthony was really productive as a defensive anchor when he played, but my man rarely played.  Boban could score in bunches and rebound, but we know the story there.  It's OK to have an emergency center like Ellenson who is already getting paid to do nothing, and Moreland to go in and do dirty work.  We know he can score and rebound a little if we need him to.

Reed would have been a good fringe rotation player for the Pistons but he's being suspended for domestic abuse--which doesn't fly in 2018.  I think he was traded for to be traded again, TBH.

Brice has potential, but he's shooting like 46% in the GLeague.  We already have one Ellenson.

I wouldn't be surprised if Reed doesn't play again in the league this year.

I don't see the need for another C.  Drummond and Blake are going to be the pivots.  If all Hedes breaks loose, there isn't anyone on the market worth it bring in now.  And small ball is the rage anymore anyway.  If the front line is Ellenson & Moreland, this are going too well to lose or too poor to win.

It's spelled "Hades."  I figured you would have known that considering how long you lived in Columbus...

Never lived there, but OK.

Enjoy another undefeated offseason up there in AA, alright?

I wish.  Probably not happening this year.   But one of these years I am going to venture down for a week.
