Motor City Sonics

Is there anything that gives you hope for 2018 (and only 2018)

I am excited about Johnny Barbato.  If he can get past the potential attitude problems, he could be good in the bullpen.  Johnny is cool and has been buddies with Deuce throughout the minors, but he is also a crazy SOB with a mean streak who is not afraid to mix it up with anyone.  He was suspended three times for fighting in one season in A-Ball.  Deuce  can handle himself in a fight if necessary, but prefers  to rely on his reputation and tries to avoid fisticuffs.  The benefit of hanging out with Barbato is that it enhances his rep as a tough guy without actually having to take any punches.  What does Barbato get out of it?  He gets to hang out with Jim Adduci.

Fonzie was like that.   Never saw him throw a punch on Happy Days - because he didn't have to.

Ayyyyyyyy

And hanging out with the Deuce means you get to pick up on the talent that he passes on.

With Gardy around yelling and whipping these guys into shape, Barbato and Deuce can get into fights in the lockerroom to make the team more intense.

Artie Lewicki is a real smart-mouth kind of guy but he isn't really into the rough stuff.  He leaves that to Barbato.  Both of those guys will benefit from having Jim Adduci as a mentor.

This seems like the kind of team that a utility player will write a "life of a major leaguer" book about. Meaningless games and forgettable road trips the backdrop for stories about making it in the pros as a fringe player.

Artie Lewicki could maybe do that.  He is a bright guy and he won't be afraid of pissing off guys like Gardenhire and McCann who frown upon that sort of thing.  He tends not to take anything too seriously though and might have a hard time organizing such a project.

Precisely the type of guy who is bound to develop a killer knuckleball.
