I pay 160.00 for unlimited everything on 2 phones.  Good enough for me not to mess with it.  We have had the same carrier for close to 10 years.

damn - I typed out an answer to this and my usually rock sold Lenovo took a powder on me just as I was finishing. OK here goes again....

the fiber comes along the utility poles like a phone cable - or underground I suppose if you have it. They attach a splitter to the fiber cable and run a line down to your house from the pole that looks much like an old telephone pair line,  i.e., flat, but a little smaller. That contains one fiber lead and a bunch of structural reinforcement material. That terminates at a box on the outside wall, much like a cable service. I watched them make that splice. The fiber is tiny, barely visible to the naked eye. From the box they run a light weight fiber line (about 1/8" diam) into your house. That terminates in a small (just few inches across) fiber to ethernet modem. This is a low voltage device that has to be powered externally - typically with a wall wart. Then a short Cat6/7 patch into your router. I assume at some point they will be rolling out routers that have direct fiber inputs to eliminate the extra modem. I have all the fiber stuff just on top of the drop ceiling and the router high on an inside basement wall so only short lengths of cat6 lines to and from the router into the ceiling are visible.

My ATT set-top boxes connect via cat6 lines from the router just like a regular LAN line to a computer, so the distinction of video vs data service in terms of byte flow in the billings is totally artificial - all the video that I pay for as part of my TV service which ATT doesn't count as IP data,  is still IP data. (I so have an unlimited data plan anyway, but even if I didn't they still don't count anything that goes through the set-top box as data).

The newer TV does wireless but I added an ethernet switch so I could hard wire both the set-top box and the TV, which like most recent sets has it's own WebOS. The switch also supports a third CAT6 to a PC with a video capture system. Getting this working usefully is a last hurdle in dumping the TV part of the bill.

Got the att internet 1000 installed today. So far so good. Not sure what kind of speeds I should actually get, but the speedtest app on my phone says 180 up and down.

I've seen 950, 700-850 is typical. If you are on a WiFi device you will likely max out your wireless before you hit the fiber limit.

I use PagePlusCellular and it's Verizon but at a much cheaper rate. It's MTM and I renew automatically. In 9 years I have had zero issues. We tried Metro POS for a short period and it was a disaster.

Thanks for this.  Just checked them online & it looks like it might be my best option.

Was just about ready to call these guys .. but gave AT&T one last chance.  Went with their pre-paid plan, because I get a multi-line discount & another for auto pay. $50/month for 2 phones.  Neither my wife or I go thru much data, so we'll be fine.  Canceled DirecTV & went back to Charter, who will pay off my DirecTV cancellation fee .. Plus now I have no contract.  Will decide at some point in the future whether to cut the cord completely.

UPDATE:  So remember I went with Charter `cuz they'd pay off my DirecTV cancellation fee?  I had confirmed earlier with AT&T that there was a fee .. now, I find out there is no fee.  I owe them nothing. So I'm now in the process of deciding which streaming package to pick.  Disney's ESPN/Hulu/Disney package looks good.  I'll also look at Sling-TV & YouTube.  We'll see.  Any recommendations?

I read that yesterday and... dang.... I could just quit watching anything else for the next 18 months and be happy.  I signed up for that a few weeks ago when they were hyping it during the emmys.

I read earlier that something like 3/4 of their entire catalogue has been made in the last 15 years. That's crazy to think about because they seemed huge when I was a kid.

Something like Toy Story makes me sappy because it lines up perfectly with my oldest son.... when I see it on TV I can remember watching that with him.

Maybe it's because we don't have kids.  But there is nothing for us to watch on that service.

Did some digging and it appears their adult content will be on Hulu.

To each their own, but I would subscribe to this even I didn’t have kids, if only for the mandalorian. But the access to the marvel films adds value, and the original content like the aforementioned mandalorian, the other new Star Wars tv series, and the new marvel tv series is enough “grown up” content for this poster.

The Pixar movies and kids’ films are pretty much a bonus.

Only a portion of their content is for kids. I'm excited for all of the Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars movies to be on there. As well as all the National Geographic stuff. Shows like Dog Whisperer, 30 years of The Simpsons, it's really a lot for $6. But I also get if you don't watch stuff like that.

Yeah, it is at least interesting to see that as of now, there isn’t much in the way of the Fox content (aside from the simpsons, which seems like an obvious thing to include on this service).

but with all of the Fox catalog content, I wonder if it will be made available periodically on Hulu, permanently on Hulu, or eventually added to Disney+ on a permanent basis down the line. I think there is definitely some corporate value to keeping this stuff partitioned, because no one really considers old Fox stuff as “Disney” anyway, and with the bundle they are pushing, you would end up with all of it anyway.

I think that for the most part, they want the Disney app to be for things you consider to be “Disney.” The simpsons being the exception because having that on there could be enough to get people to subscribe only for that.

I am sure I will get it eventually because of the kids, it does irritate me a little though that I have purchased so many of these titles in the past.  I think I have had about 3-4 different versions of Pinocchio in my life (VHS, Special VHS, DVD, online).

The last one I got was Swiss Family Robinson for the kids.  I have about 10-11 that I had to pay 20.00 each for.  I have all of the Star Wars stuff also on VHS, DVD etc.  The first time I go to find a Disney movie I want to introduce the kids too and see the only way to get it will be to subscribe will probably be the time I get it...that or when the Mandalorian comes out.

Makes sense. I could see them adding a premium service later on with fox content but who knows.

Relevant to the discussion here.  WOW Gig internet for 85.00 a month.  I keep checking the speeds multiple times a day because I cannot believe it.  Always close to 800+ down and 60 or so up.  Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime and a 100 local cable channels for close to 130.00 savings a month.  Discovery + is on the radar, but other than that I cannot think of anything else we will need.  I will miss MLB Network for random games so may do that with the VPN thing, but we get Fox Sports for the Tiger games so that may be enough.
