The Official 2017-2018 Detroit Tigers Off-season Thread

I do remember, but was it Paniagua?  I thought that it might have been someone with an even lower profile - Levine? - but I can't say for sure.  So Paniagua it is.

Who was the poster here that went off on the whole Paniagua thing and called him a left-handed specialist.   He went so off the rails that I think he got banned here.

I gotta tell ya, I am having visions, like repressed memories of a certain GM talking up the greatness of Paniagua and Craig Paquette - with a straight face.

The horror............The horror.

Jose Valentin seems like a good addition to the staff. I'm hoping he can pass on some of that sneaky power to our middle infielde prospects while he's trying to show them how to not get spiked in the nads.

So, if we wanted to guess Pete Kozma's jersey number for 2018, would we do that in this thread or should that be a thread topic unto itself?

I was wondering when Kozma's family was going to post how awesome he was against the Tigers...

Henning tries to place prospects where they will start in 2018.

No reason for Hill to spend a 4th year to WMI; CF in Lakeland for him.

Don't see Daz skipping Lakeland to go to Erie; RF in Lakeland for him.

Morgan to Lakeland and McMillan to WMI are both very aggressive placements.

I don't think they put Alcantara and Simcox both at Erie.

I would put Turnbull at Toledo and Hall at Erie.

He did not place Soto; I have him at Lakeland.

Do like Faedo starting at Lakeland.

TRIPLE A TOLEDO

Grayson Greiner/ Derek Norris, C

Edwin Espinal, Dominic Ficociello, 1B/DH

Dawel Lugo 2B

Kody Eaves, 3B

Josh Lester, 3B

Sergio Alcantara, A.J. Simcox, SS

Jake Robson, LF

Daz Cameron or Cam Gibson, CF

Troy Montgomery, Jason Krizan RF

Rotation: Beau Burrows, Sandy Baez, Franklin Perez, Spencer Turnbull, Tyler Alexander, Austin Sodders, A.J. Ladwig

SINGLE A LAKELAND

At first, I was surprised at the number being quite that low, but WAR-wise, especially with the position change and adjustment, it makes sense.

6 million for his bat seems low. AA should call DD and day forget JD and save 150. Take Casty and put him at DH.

I don't get why so many want to trade Nick away so fast. He' s more valuable to us at this point in time, than what we'd get back.

It's also not out of the question that he could make an improvement offensively.

That's easy.  No DH's on this team!

That means that once we've gotten rid of Nick, we need to get rid of Victor, Miggy, and Stewart ( know he's not in Detroit yet, but he's too close for comfort.).

I have no problem with the DH rule, but it should be used to give regulars a rest from playing in the field, and to give bench players more PA's than they would otherwise get, and to give multi-position players the place in this world that they deserve.

I don't want anybody on my team (please excuse me for calling the Tigers 'mine') who is a liability in the field.

Exactly. He's young, still pretty cheap and someone that can hit behind miggy.

Right now we'd get nothing back then a Kinsler type deal for him. He makes more sense to wait to the deadline or next offseason to move to hope to increase the return.

So giveaway guys that can hit because they are a liability in the field? Lots of teams won with DHs and fielders who aren't the best. I know its the en vogue thing right now, but let's not hand decent players to other teams.

(oh, and I'm not worried about giving the backup catcher, shortstop or CF more ABs. There is a reason they are back-ups. if they could hit they'd be starters)

Cole to Astros for Joe Musgrove, Colin Moran, Michael Feliz and Jason Martin.

I think we did much better in the Verlander deal.

There's no question. Pitt got nothing exciting in return. It feels like they would have been much better off holding onto Cole and hoping he had a big first half. They could've hardly done worse.

Look, I had nothing to do this morning so I watched Meet the Press and Face the Nation, and I've decided that from now on I'm going to start every sentence with "Look".  I'll be doing that for 2 reasons:  (a) to alert you to the fact that what I am about to say is 100% true and is a profound insight of which you seem to be incapable, and (b) to help you, in the most condescending way possible, to focus your meagre powers of concentration on the importance of what I am about to share.

Look, if you don't want to read my posts you don't have to.

Yankees have Serevino, CC, Gray, Montgomey and Tanaka. They don't NEED Fulmer, but their 6th starter is Cessa right now - they need someone better than that.

I would think they figure out 2b, 3b and get a 6th starter first, and then see  how it goes for April and May.

As with any trade moving Castellanos is dependent upon the return. But with only 2 years of control and no extension in sight why not move him for a good return?

I seem to recall many thought our return for JD would have been much better when he had 2 years of control.

Plus he is terrible defender and Boston has the DH spot open. Now.
