This final month of the season for Team Tank is going to be an F'U to Major League Baseball's rules that penalize high salary teams that need to rebuild.

Poor Mikie Mahtook.  Knocks a ball over the wall inadvertently for a Cleveland home run yesterday.  Has a batted home run taken away from over and behind the wall today (and after getting a hand slap from Vizquel rounding 1th base).

Meanwhile, Lewicki still looking decent aside from one bad inning.

Artie Lewicki might be a cooler name than Jim Adduci.  LIston, what can you tell us about this guy?

Artie Lewicki ran the craps games all through high school.  During his last year they played all day, every day, indoors and out.  Guys who weren't students were in the school all day shooting craps.  Artie wore big baggy zoot suit pants.

Volleyballing the home run was flukey.  He was trying to make a play, be aggressive, grab the ball, and fire it into the infield as quickly as possible.  I have a hard time faulting him, although we all know what the safe play is now.

The home run that wasn't, yeah, that looks bad.  But the ball was so high up there, and it did have the distance.

You know what really has the look of a truly horrible baseball team?  The starting rotation from here on out.

I'm becoming a fan of Candelario.  It's nice to have a defensively competent 3Bdude.  And his offense will follow.

I think I'll see you all next spring.  Right now this team is like the hallway scene from the film DETROIT.

I lied. I just couldn't help but at least look at the box score on my phone.  Like the guy says in Brokeback Mountain "I sure wish I could quit you."  Even though they lost it was nice to see some hits coming from Presley and Candelario.

Bottom of the 9th was fun.  There were a few other innings that were fun and full of anticipation, albeit unfulfilled anticipation.

If they go 65-97 for a few seasons, as long as they are a competitive 65-97, I think I can handle it.  I honestly don't know what I mean by a competitive 65-97, but that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  And I think that any day spent listening/watching a Tiger game beats the snot out of shoveling 7 inches of snow.

Not dropping pop-ups, no infighting, the occasional walkoff, twice a month one run start....basically not the 2003 team.

Something like that.  Perform like a competitive team when I am watching/listening.  When I am not tuned in, 2003 up the place.

Oh, I know it was fluky. I think the high five on the deep fly out was fluky, too. I'm just saying, those are the kinds of things that happen to truly horrible teams. Not just bad plays, but really rotten luck, too. It's the combination of the two that makes for truly horrible teams.

How lucky is Arizona. They filled a big hole and gave up virtually nothing. Martinez with 4 homers tonite and 18 since the trade. He has 34 HRs in around 3 months.

Just bad timing I guess, if you believe the insiders. But it will be a while before I stop seething about this trade. To think that we traded Martinez and Upton and didn't get one top 100 or even top 200 prospect between the two of them is remarkable and maddening--regardeless of the circumstances.

Oh, man, what a ****ing dagger to the heart.

EDIT: Just as much a dagger was Robbie Ray's 14 Ks in 7-2/3.

I'm sorry, is anybody ******* surprised at JD teeing off?  He's a world-class power hitter.

I'm not here to argue that it was a bad trade but he is a great hitter.

I still hate the trade too.  I know they weren't going get anything for him if they kept him and that it's better than something than nothing when you are committed to re-building,, but I still hate the trade.  JD is a great hitter and I fear they will get nothing out of this deal.
