You know the lineup is weak when Oregon State-Colorado State is the marquee matchup.

But it beats not having CFB on.

HS football started on Friday here in FL, which is crazy given August in FL is such a hot, humid mess.  They seem to kill a kid or two every year down here because of the heat, it just makes  no sense.

It started already?  Do they try to wrap up the entire season, regular and post,  by a certain date (ie, Thanksgiving)?

I guess looking at the local's schedule, it starts here this weekend.  But it's likely to be a bit less hot & humid around these parts.

It makes no sense.

It is just schedule creep and if forced to guess, it is coaches / parents aggressively pushing the thing in the hopes of gaining an edge (or perhaps more accurately, not fall behind).

It seems like they want to get to the Semi-finals by Thanksgiving, but that's just a guessed based on the schedule creep.

There aren't too many press boxes with AC in the area, but I want to say most have fans.  You know, gotta keep the important people cool :)  Thankfully, quite a few of the local schools do have some sort of misting/fan system--a double-edged sword with this humidity, but better than not having it I suppose.

I just googled my old school to see when they start.

I'm disappointed to see they switched to a Michigan style helmet.  Kinda sad, I hate schools that copy that and I liked our old helmet with the Broncho on the side.

September 2nd will be a decent day.

You have Michigan-Florida at 3:30PM and then Alabama-FSU at 8PM.

My dad and great uncle are going to be in Arlington.  I'm either going to be really glad or really mad I turned down the trip.

Half of Tallahassee will be in ATL for that FSU game--they really think they can beat Bama and I hope they do.

I stayed for about 80% of FSU's spring game and they are more of what we saw at the Orange Bowl--strong, really fast and aggressive.  They'll miss Cook a little, and the 5* frosh replacing him is a step down, but they will go vertical with just about anyone this year.

Preseason rankings are silly.

But you still look at them don't you?

No, I honestly have not looked at them.  I know what Alabama is ranked because of hearing it on the radio.

So much of it is based on reputation and the previous season and expectation for the upcoming season.  But none of it is based on any actual games having been played.

I'm not sure the rankings mean much of anything until later on in October.  But I understand why they go about ranking from (before) day 1.

Yeah, I haven't looked at them either. I don't think they are completely useless. I don't follow college football closely enough to have any idea on which teams are supposed to be good outside of the handful of big ten teams that seem relevant.

So I may take a look at them to see whether there are any games going on with decent teams involved. That's pretty much the case throughout the season for me.

Quote

In the first minute of the second quarter in its game with Ohio State last year, Indiana scored a touchdown and kicked the extra point. Lee Corso, the Indiana coach, immediately called time and huddled his players on the sideline, where he had a photographer take a picture of the happy group at an angle which allowed the scoreboard to fill the background: INDIANA 7, OHIO STATE 6. Asked why he did this, Corso said, "It's the first time in 25 years Indiana has led Ohio State in a game. I looked it up. Can you believe it? Twenty-five years! The goal of a lifetime!" Ohio State went on to win the game 47-7.
