Win this game and we may be on to something (something: maybe squeak into a wild card spot...what happens from there I do not care.)...lose it and it will feel like the end of the season for me...I know, I know a lot of baseball left and anything can happen...it is just the timing of everything for me personally.

July 20, 1958 - Tigers pitcher Jim Bunning throws a no-hitter against the Boston Red Sox, leading the team to a 3-0 victory at Fenway Park.  Bunning strikes out 12, walking 2 batters and hitting right fielder Jackie Jensen with a pitch for Boston's only baserunners, none of whom advance past second.  The Tigers score all of their runs in the fifth inning, getting RBIs from Gus Zernial, Red Wilson, and Harvey Kuenn.

July 20, 1998 - The Tigers beat the New York Yankees 4-3 in 17 innings in the first game of a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium.  Relievers Matt Anderson, Sean Runyan, Doug Brocail, Todd Jones, Doug Bochtler, Dean Crow, and A.J. Sager combine to throw 11 scoreless innings as the Tigers finally push across a run in the 17th inning when Luis Gonzalez scores on a single from Joe Randa.  Center fielder Brian Hunter goes 0-for-8 in the game, combining that with an 0-for-5 performance in the nightcap.  Runyan, Anderson, and Sager will also pitch in game 2, with the two games taking just under nine hours.  On the same day, the team releases struggling infielder Billy Ripken.

Holy crap that 2nd one!  lol....can you imagine playing a 17 inning game and then having another game to play right after? jhc!  I have no recollection of those games.  I was a couple years out of HS and was working 2 jobs and lost contact with the sport during that time.  WOW

The Tigers will win this game easily. Fulmer is on the mound and he will stop this one game losing streak in its tracks.

If he doesn't, it's because he's been rattled by the trade talk. Blame the #fakenews media if the Tigers lose this one.

3 outs away from our biggest winning streak of the year with our 2nd best pitcher on the mound...could not find a way to do it.

In 1998 I was blissfully unaware of the Detroit Tigers.  My third child had just been born, I had a demanding but mildly pleasing job, and life was too full to worry or care about this team, especially since I lived far far away and it was hard to follow them anyway.   And then the fast start to the 2004 season got me going again.  26 years of nearly spotless sobriety lost in a week.  Except for Mark Fidrych and the 1984 season I hardly knew the Tigers existed. This forum became my 12 step group. Hi, I'm IdahoBert and I'm a Tiger fan.

Tigers will tonight and then sweep the twins, putting us 3 games below .500. Same as the Angels are right now, who are 3 back from the wild card.

Everyone knows Kinsler is a streaky hitter. Since the ASB he's .292/.370/.542/.912, maybe he's about to turn his season around!

Error by Castellanos, error by Mahtook. Tiger give a run to the Royals.

I'm at the point were I would rather watch a game played by a non-playoff team that can actually catch and throw the ball than a playoff team that can't.

2 errors and run scored in the first inning, it's good to get this out-of-the-way so it'll be a stellar performance the rest of the way!

I suppose I harp on this too much, but there is no way we really have any accurate sense about this pitching staff when they throw in front such an incompetent fielding team.

Well the blonde lady is back in her season ticket seats in the second row behind home. I hope she enjoys this stuff because this would be torture if she doesn't.

I really like watching these games on the 4K TV through the PlayStation with Dan and Jim perfectly synced with the action.  It's the best of all possible worlds, but the thing that could make it better is if the Tigers had a record like the Dodgers.

I was honestly coming to this website to find a topic to post about 4K and how much of a scam it is.

so just for that they give away another one. Royals with two runners on 3rd. Tigers cannot get the out.

Fulmer will be over 30 pitches for the inning after facing at least 3 more batters than he should have.
