I looked up Torres but never  would have thought that Frank cat and Joyce would have been over 10.... interesting.

Totally forgot about Chris Hoiles and Cody Ross.

Speaking of former Tiger prospects, I was shocked to hear Gorkys Hernandez name last night for the Giants. (Maybe this has been mentioned elsewhere.) He was part of the Renteria trade (along with Jurgens), one of the few pre-2010 DD trades that DD lost.

All understandable. I had to look up old drafts on bbref to see all of those guys.

No excuse for you to forget cam maybin. He's a former first round pick and everything!

And they did talk him up a lot as he rocketed through the system in 2007. But when he got that sept call up and we got to see how long his swing was the handwriting was on the wall.....(along with the K's in the scorebook!)

Still, maybin has had a nice career.

Also, didn't he get called up prior to September?  I seem to recall him being called up before that, maybe in early August, to replace Monroe.

Yes. I was at his first game at Comerica Park. He played LF and was less than stellar. In fact, he was a hack, that game. Young kid playing out of position.

edit; I found this;.

Debut; August 17, 2007

Didn't he homer off Clemons in his first game? Right after roger buzzed him?

apparently - didn't look at the dates, only that he was here for 24 games that season. To his credit, the approach he had last year didn't look much like he looked as rookie. I remember Cameron in an interview in the past saying he started to become a more effective hitter at MLB level once he resigned himself to not being a big power guy and cut down his swing.

I thought he homered of Clemons then Clemons hit him on the wrists next AB?

"Welcome to the show, kid!"

Not sure if it was his first at bat but it was definitely his first game,  I vividly remember making plans with my buddy to go out and watch that game only for him to run late and us miss the homer.   Of course at that time we were all convinced he was going to be the next Willie Mays or something so we thought we would be witnessing history by watching his first game.

I think you are both right.  I believe Clemens brushed him back, then Maybin Homered and Clemens hit him the next time up.  Clemens was such a douchebag.

Maybin's first game was in New York on August 17th, 2007. He went 0 for 4

. The next day was Maybin's HR against Roger.

Damn the Mandela effect strikes again, I could've sworn his first game was against Clemens but now that you mention it and I think about it I do  remember going out on a Friday night to watch him and the Clemens game was a Saturday afternoon game.

I looked into the box score some more and see Maybin got hit by Clemens in the 3rd inning and Maybin hit his homer in the 5th. In New York.

Actually the sequence was:

third Maybin single

fifth Maybin homer

sixth Maybin HBP.

If you look at the play by play of the game it shows Maybin singles in the 3rd, homers in the 5th and HBP in the 6th, then k's in the 9th against Rivera.

Victor now has 2K hits. Time to retire.

Very surly, unpleasant man. Was he always this surly? And that black shirt with the gold trim he wore in the locker room the other night? Whoah! That was ugly. Then he calls Fulmer our "best pitcher". That was unnecessary. Sure, maybe he is our best pitcher, but to say that when Ver is still on the team? C'mon. Surly.

Cleveland being unpleasant and surly as well.

It was certainly rude to send 8 men to the plate in one half of an inning.

If my host was treating me like that I definitely would not accept any return invitations. Do you suppose we can we arrange that through the league office's etiquette manager?

With two men on, no out,  and a rally beckoning, Cabrera battles, but fails 5-4-3

Where O where has our Miguel gone?    :(
