Apparently not...or it was just too early.

That ending was interesting. Does the theory that this was all part of Rick's dream become a reality? I'm going to go with the "Rick dreams that this is all a dream" and that is why the footage is so soft. AMC is not going to kill this cash cow even though they should. They'll milk it at least one more season.

I think that scene means nothing   This show is notorious for having shots in trailers and promos that mislead us.   As I always say they are not that clever.  This isn't breaking bad or BCS.  They won't drop a hint like that.

Truer things have not been said. That scene will certainly get the viewers talking so from a marketing standpoint, it's a good move. However it may be short-lived if they cheese it and frustrate more people.

My guess is that the scene shows a FF from what we are going to see in real time or possible from a story being told to an older Judith or something.  I think there is a chance that the end of this season we see an older Rick and a HUGE FF in time...to the point where walkers are not really around anymore and they are rebuilding a society...then maybe 1 more season of that and then that is it...I think it would leave some of the hardcore fans wanting more and it MAY satisfy those who are not really big fans any more.  Kirkman will continue with his graphic novels, but my guess is that they are thinking about the end.

Or it could be crap like they have pulled on us before and not something that is even in the show.  I do not think it is a dream...they are trolling us showing the flowers etc.  Could be a Rick dream sequence where he envisions himself in 10 years or something, but I think it is a real shot that will be featured in the show and it could be from a HUGE FF like 10 years or something.  I would really enjoy that TBH if it only last a couple episodes at the end of the year or a shortened final season.

So maybe Rick is older, Judith and Carl are older and even played by different actors and Rick is recounting the telling of the whole Negan war...after they show it to us as if it were real time...Rick is older and Judith is listening in...Just a thought.

I do think that shots plays in the story that we see though and is not a 'mom!  mom!' cliffhanger.  At least I hope it does.

Is he really that much older?  I don't think so.  Yeah he has gray in his beard but at his age he could have that now.  I'm 43 and if I grew a beard like that it's what it would look like.  This isn't "old man Rick".  We could see a time jump of a year or two and this could represent that.  Maybe there's a huge battle and he's injured then a jump to him like that and the cane represents a limp or something.  I don't think we're talking years and years.

How much older they wanted him to look or how well of a job they did is up for discussion of course.  I can see that Rick as 10 years older easily, but I could also see it as 5 years or so, but not a small FF of less than that.  He is grey all over.  It is the hair more than the beard really.

To me it symbolizes the beginning of the real life nightmare for Rick...waking from the coma in the first episode one of the first things he does is look to his left to see the decaying flowers by his bed...that was the beginning of the real life nightmare....that last shot looks like the end of the real life nightmare...maybe Rick ends up in a coma again as the result of something Negan does and that is him waking up after everyone has been taking care of him for a number of years.  I do not think that would be the end of the show though.  I think they can have a couple episodes or maybe even a full season of slowing things down to wrap the story up.

Would it be weird to see Rick wake up at the end of the season and find out they beat Negan, but Negan is now a member of their crew?  Could they pull that off?  That would be pretty darn hard.

Getting past the "why didn't they...." disbelief... I thought it was a fine episode.  Didn't drag on too much which is usually my criticism.  Except the speeches wear me out.

SOOOOOOOOOOO many holes in rationale, but again looking past all he things that do not make sense it was alright.

A typical episode that promised one thing, gave way more than I expected, but still managed to follow the same script every other episode does.

So we have 3 Ricks.  My opinion on old man Rick is that is the teary eyed Ricks visions in his head how he wanted life to be for the group.  That is not in any way a flash forward..not in my opinion anyway.  Teary eyed Rick is more like the current day Rick, cocky Rick is flashbacks and old man Rick is just in his head.

Rick is shown standing over 2 graves a few times.  Teary eyed.  I am guessing Michonne and Carl or AT LEAST one of them.  Doubt is is Judith and Carl, but an outside shot.  A slight possibility of Maggy and another as well.

I am assuming they were blasting the windows way up to take out any snipers that may have been perched up there because other than that it made no real sense.  Walkers are not climbing up to go through windows 30' in the air.

How does Rick miss Negan when he is standing right there not moving and he has an automatic rifle?  Head shots with shambling moving corpses while you are driving in a car?  Check.  Hitting a standing target while you are not moving with an assault rifle?  Nope.

"Hey Rick this is not about you.  Let's roll" as Negan is a sitting duck....."oh there is the rat that JUST betrayed us all...I am going to go save him AFTER I told Rick we HAVE to go"

SOOOO many freaking holes.  The writing used to be SOOOO much better.  Now they do not give a damn about tying things up...just leave frayed ends everywhere.

I did like the 3 Rick Monty trick they were playing...that was a nice touch.

"It ends today!"...not really.  I was actually kind of hoping they were going to do something dramatic and different and actually end the war and FF to old man Rick and the new crew getting along swimmingly until some new threat came out of nowhere to start a new direction.  Completely changing perspective...old man Rick with a cane, older Judith with a new actor playing her, maybe even older Carl and recast him as well because of the time jump of a few years.

Show the walkers finally falling away for the most part.  Rotting, decaying but still just laying around....maybe show a new community we have never seen and show someone screwing up out in the world and getting bit and then that person hiding it and ending up infecting a bunch of other people spreading it again...show that cycle or something.  Just some random ideas off the top of my head.

So many opportunities to plant a slug between Negan’s eyes... yet we get glances.  (Annoying and pretty unbelievable, imp)

Just shoot him. His crew would mostly cut and run.

Yet, I’m in... still want to watch it.

As a fan you just have to get over the "why did they..." or "why didn't they..."

It's not Breaking Bad.  Once you do that then the show is better.

And Talking Dead?  All I can say is..... wow.  The men know what i"m talking about.

Well, if nothing else it makes the saviors headquarters a little less comfortable and just generally sows more confusion and chaos, which is sorta what they were going for...

On the plus side: I loved their plan of breaking the fence and "forcing" a horde into the compound. They've apparently learned from when it was done, twice, to them.

On the negative side:

  • Echoing Sue: Just pop a cap in Negan... he's out in the open, you've got lots of guns.  There's simply no way EVERYONE would have missed if you just opened up on him.
  • Look outs: Now, I'm not a military man myself, but if I was sending out "lookouts" as a first line of defense, then I'd take a couple of per cautions.  First, I'd do my darnedest to make sure I have communication with them and regular check ins.  Now, perhaps they were so far out that "normal" radios that would likely be scavenged wouldn't work. If so, then you setup a ring of closer lookouts that the far ones talk to.
  • Also... why just one person at each lookout station?  At the very least there should be two: One actually looking out, the other on the radio ready to report.

I think they really expected nobody to know about them as they don't know about the mole

Finally caught up on this season.  I gotta say that atleast it's been filled with action but so many things that make you scratch your head but like Oblong said its just one of those shows where you have to look past that.  I will say that some of it confused me, there were just so many people that I was losing track of which side was which.

Also what was the deal with Rick and Daryl?  Were they at the same satellite location that Jesus and them were at?  And what were they looking for, guns?   Seems like they should've just wiped them all out first then go searching for the guns as a group after.   Also why are Ezekial and that crew worried about that guy relaying it to the sanctuary so much, isn't that place pretty much wiped out now after all the walkers over ran it?

The 2nd episode this season drew an 8.90, the lowest rating of an episode since season two. Around half of the season 7 premier. Half. That's a staggering dropoff in a year.

Third episode tonight? So that means a c level character gets their own episode?

They stopped doing that.

This season has been much better so far.  I think producers took to heart the complaints about isolation episodes.  We're still in the same day I think from day 1 but we're seeing all the action via cutting.  So much better to watch.

As for the show itself... it's ok.  I am not angry or annoyed.  It's not the greatest drama or anything but it's a fun thing to watch to close out the weekend with the wife.

spoiler

Spoiler

I was afraid we'd get a Morales stand alone but that is not necessary
