Better Call Saul - Season 3

Thinking back to Breaking Bad, did Saul actually know Gus? I don't seem to recall any part where the two were directly linked so I'm not sure we will ever see Saul and Gus together.

Saul knew a guy who knew a guy. Basically, he knew Mike, who knew Gus. Pretty sure they never met face-to-face.

Side note: we first saw Mike when he went to clean up Jesse's house when Jane died. Mike was created because Bob Odenkirk (Saul) wasn't available to film that day. He was supposed to be the one cleaning up. We may not have ever even had Mike's character otherwise.

I tried and tried to explain to my wife what Mike did at the end. I think it finally clicked.

Maybe next time I hide her iPad.

I thought this was a pretty good explanation:

Quote

Mike, using the duplicate tracker his veterinarian friend helped him procure, realizes that the tracker hidden in his gas cap runs on a battery, that the receiver gets a warning when the battery is low, and that odds are greater that the people following him will simply swap out the whole gas cap (with a new tracker) each time the battery needs changing, since that can be done in seconds, rather than the minute or more it would take to dismantle the cap, swap the battery (or tracker), reassemble the cap, and screw it back in. He puts the duplicate tracker, which he has the receiver for, into the car, then runs down the battery from the original tracker by using it to also power his trusty transistor radio. When the batter runs low, he knows the people following him will come to replace it and drive off with what they think is their tracker, but is really his. Once they’ve come and gone, he hops into his sedan and follows from a safe distance, knowing he can use his receiver to keep tabs on their position. It’s not as complicated as, say, Jesse figuring out what Huell did with his cigarettes, but I know I wasn’t the only reviewer who didn’t grasp all the ins and outs of the plan the first time through.

But see, I LOVE that they don't explain it to you....there is a certain level of trust between the producers and the viewers and a trust in the character Mike......................The movie "Rounders" didn't explain all the poker terms either and even though I didn't understand it at first, I was able to figure it out by the characters' reactions.

I love that woman!

...where was I?

Oh yeah, I think they're building suspense just fine. I think what happens to Kim and Chuck is the suspense. What I'm hoping for is whatever Chuck has planned blow up in his face and he goes to jail. As for Kim, I see her completely broken. I wouldn't be surprised if she turns out to be one of the meth whores from Breaking Bad.

I would be shocked if Kim ends up being a meth *****.

I think it is much more likely that she just exit that scene and start up from scratch somewhere else.

Kim may still be part of the Jimmy/Saul story during the Breaking Bad timeline.   We did not glimpse into Saul's personal life or dealings with anyone other than Walt/Jesse/Skyler/Mike.    Saul was really actually a small part of Breaking Bad.   You could merge the events of the BB timeline into Better Call Saul - and either show scenes already shot or recreate a few scenes - viewed through Saul's eyes.  Only thing is that the folks from BB have aged quite a bit, especially Aaron Paul.

I am just offering my opinion, but I can't see Kim working in Jimmy's cheesy office from BB or catering to that clientele.

They also started Walter White as the straight laced high school teacher who ended up being a drug kingpin. It will be interesting to see where the character goes. It's really clever adding Kim and Chuck. We already know where Jimmy ends up so the intrigue is with these new characters.

Walter also had a terminal illness that made him re-think his life -> wasn't afraid of the end game, plus he felt (rightly or not) he got cheated out of a share of a highly successful business. Plus he didn't feel respected as a teacher and maybe? felt he settled on his choice of spouse.

Not getting that vibe out of Kim.

She could end up as sort of an unwilling accomplice like Skylar.

I can definitely see that.

I simply don't see her 'breaking bad' or becoming a drug addict because I don't think the character was set-up for that arc and frankly I think it would be inconsistent to make that her arc at this point.

Gotta think Kim is out of his life by the end of this. We are watching a tragedy, he doesn't "get the girl" IMO

We already see her going down a slippery slope by taking on the Mesa Verde case even though she knows the circumstances in which she got it. I can see the story arc happening similar to Walt and Skylar. Kim becomes an unwilling accomplice and the whole thing comes crashing down and they end up separated. We obviously know how it comes crashing down. Just have to know Kim's involvement.

I still think something bad happens to her and she quits law altogether and goes back to Nebraska.

I couldn't see her as a drug addict, but maybe drinking too much after he ends up tanking her career.

Wait...........Kim turns into Wendy ('Windy") from the Crystal Palace (Crossroads Motel).

Colors always play a role in Vince Gilligan's universe.

Jimmy's new office is painted red.   Red = Blood

Kim's office is painted blue  Blue = Heisenberg's meth...............SHE DOES BECOME AN ADDICT !

Hook, line, sinker. What an idiot.

Truthfully, Kim should have warned him to not go after it. She should have known he'd do that.

I was wondering about how he could later practice law under an alias. Now I think it's pretty clean he is disbarred, hence the alias.

Not necessarily, he could just keep saying that he was only saying that he did it because he thought Chuck was having a nervous breakdown.    In fact, he should have kept sticking with that...........he could say he was angry because his brother didn't trust him.

Multiple things going on.  I do not think Jimmy gets to practice law in the same city his brother and HHM are in with all the commercials under some alias after he is disbarred and HHM are the ones responsible.  Both shows take place in Albuquerque.  I am guessing this whole thing was to just get Jimmy out of Chucks life.  Chuck wants, literally, nothing to do with him anymore.  Jimmy made his bed and Chuck wants nothing to do with it...so this whole thing was a ploy to get Jimmy to change his name and disown Chuck.  Chuck may even be trying to manipulate Jimmy into making the decision himself after some small prodding from Chuck.  The whole relationship shown thus far is Jimmy doing his best to make up for his past with Chuck and Chuck knocking him down every chance he gets.

Chuck: Yo do not deserve the sir name of our father!  etc etc

Jimmy:  You know what F u!  ....while he goes on to change it in spite of Chuck.

Jimmy said 'you ruined our family for this!'...I think Jimmy is done with Chuck and that is just fine with Chuck.  Jimmy is doing his best to repay Chuck for all the crap he put him through in the earlier years, but it looks like this is a perfect storm of Jimmy doing too much to be able to make up for mixed with a big brother who is too stern to look past Jimmy and what he used to be and what he used to do.

I am surprised the Mike thing needed an explanation.  It was pretty straight forward IMO.  I saw it coming as soon as he asked the guy at the junk yard if they had his style gas cap in stock.  It was set up pretty nicely.

I think the money was put BEHIND the trash can.  Either that or when Gus was sweeping over by the drop guy he whispered to not drop that day because he saw Jimmy's attempts at under cover work and lol'd at himself that Mike would send someone so damn obvious.  Quick thinking by Jimmy to drop his watch in there though to try to cover his tracks, but by then he was made.  He had probably been made after being in there for about 2 minutes.

I do no think they show Gus and Jimmy together in BB, but IMO, they DO know each other and possibly meet in that universe.  I may be miss remembering BB and I do recall when Walt asks Jimmy about Meth etc that Jimmy says he knows a guy who knows a guy, but from Jimmy that explanation can be brushed off IMO.  That just sounds like something Jimmy would say to cover his tracks.

The receptionist they hired....I think she is going to end up screwing something up and Kim will blame Jimmy for being so lazy about hiring.  I like Jimmies style with that, even though I know he only did it because he knew he had a commercial airing and wanted someone quick, but sometimes people look too hard for the perfect fit and waste too much energy on it when the first person you meet may be the one.  I would have been more like Kim if it would have been a new partner or something, but for a position like secretary...I think Jimmy was spot on with hiring her, but I think she IS going to screw up and it will cause some tension between Kim and Jimmy...it may even lead to Kim losing her big account and ultimately lead to their break up....we know something has to cause it.  It most likely will be something bigger than this, but Kim losing that account is going to crush her, if it happens.

Chuck set Jimmy up good with Ernesto.  Making such a HUGE deal about that little bit of recording Ernesto heard...the whole time I am thinking to myself 'why is Chuck going crazy over that?  Ernesto has NO IDEA what he just heard.  You are basically begging him to go to Jimmy and say something' which of course is what he did and what Chuck was hoping he would do because he knew Ernesto liked Jimmy.

They are keeping up the tradition of good writing in this show and I am glad it is getting good reviews and ratings....hopefully this will lead to more shows with better dialogue/writing.

Also...LOL at Kim becoming 'Windy'!

The receptionist they hired is the same one Saul still employs in BB, so I don't see her messing things up that badly. Unless maybe she "knows too much" or something.

Nice Easter egg.  I had no idea it was the same woman.  Yeah so that theory is gone.  Noway Jimmy keeps her around if she is the reason his friend lost a huge account like that.
