Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Recommended Posts

Luke is the last trained Jedi as far as I know.  I am about 3 books into the new canon (Ahsoka currently) and I am pretty sure he is the last one.  He is not the only force user or force sensitive person left.  He just happens to be the last one that is actually trained on how to use it.

Spoiler

In the book Ahsoka she runs into a couple force sensitive younglings and the book takes place around 20 BBY while TFA is about 34 years ABY.  Unless those younglings get killed in this book or subsequent books -I think there are about 10 more until I am current- then I would imagine there are still thousands of force sensitive kids in the galaxy.  Luke already tried gathering a class and teaching them before Ben killed them.  I imagine if a parent has a kid that they know to be force sensitive they are just keeping it quite to protect the kid....or they may not even know.

The title is primarily referring to Luke, but my guess is that it will have a double meaning by the end of the film. No idea if it means rey becomes a jedi at the end in addition to Luke or to replace Luke if Luke dies, or if kylo is redeemed too, or whatever.

The teaser trailer will probably be out in the next few weeks.

I don't think we got a teaser for Rogue One until April.

I think that's right. I was going off of how they marketed force awakens. I think the title was revealed in the fall that year, and the teaser came out the day after thanksgiving a few weeks later. So I'm thinking that now that they have released the title the teaser will be coming soon.

Luke will be in Episode 9

Spoiler

Not if Mark Hamill dies.

And I really wish this stuff wasn't posted here, even with the spoiler tag. Nobody wants it and if they do they probably already know where to find it. Just my two cents.

If you must, maybe preface it with something like "speculation on a character returning for EP9" or something so people know whether or not to click it.

I think it's worth discussing what we want out of this thread, spoiler tags or not.

Personally, I would prefer leaks about specific plot points, such as who lives or dies, whether or not a character has another defining moment, etc, be left out of this thread.

Speculation is fine. But the post in question was not presented as speculation.

The problem with the spoiler tags is that you don't know what is inside. People will use them to hide speculation and everyone has a different definition of what should go inside a spoiler tag.

Yoda acknowledged that it was in a spoiler tag and said that even with the tag it's not the type of thing people want to see in this thread. I agree with him.

If people want to see or discuss specific plot points there are plenty of other places on the internet to find that. The vast majority of Star Wars fans would like to go into the movie with the opportunity to be surprised.

No one wanted to read prior to force awakens that Han Solo dies, for instance. On the other hand, I'm sure plenty of fans would have been fine knowing that finn was a defecting storm trooper, or that the movie included a search for Luke who was in hiding.

There isn't really a bright line black/white rule for what is appropriate. People will need to use their judgment. If it is the type of thing that is revealed in the first 20 minutes of the movie, it's probably fine.

I guess I would try to treat this thread as a place for casual fans, and not as one for people that want to know every last plot detail.

Really looking forward to getting into Lords of the Sith.  According to the canon timeline it is the next one after Ahsoka.  I just finished Ahsoka on the way to work this morning and I already have Lords downloaded and ready to start playing on my lunch.  I think this will be the first book in the SWU that I have read about the sith.

If it's in a spoiler tag, and you don't want to know, then don't read it. That's what spoiler tags are for. And ftr, I didn't say how that was going to happen. That hasn't been revealed or rumored yet, and we all know there are many ways of stuff like that happening in the SW universe.

No. Some spoilers aren't as "spoilery" as others. Some I want to read. Some I don't. It isn't too much to ask to add a disclaimer if it's something major. This seems like pretty basic, common sense type stuff here... You've read all the other SW threads and you know nobody here wants to read major spoilers.

The force awakens the last Jedi?

Can we come up with another title that makes it a sentence?

From the internet

Yeah I think the difference, as SHelton pointed out, is one type of spoiler is based on leaks and the other is just speculation.

I guess maybe we need to warn with the spoiler tag to say "This is a theory that so and so came up with and it makes sense to me... " vs. "Someone claims to have found leaked footage" or "Actor A said this to a radio interview...."

Whoa, whoa, whoa!  How about a spoiler alert?!?

That's pretty funny though, but it does fail in that it doesn't work as a stand alone title.  That's the real trick, find something that works stand alone but also as part of the sentence.

Yup. Like I said, it should be common sense. Some spoilers need a warning, others don't.

As a courtesy I think anytime the spoiler tag is used a brief warning that describes what kind it is....

I'm just making these up:

Good spoiler:

Maybe Yoda is in the picture as he could have been advising Luke all this time just as Obi Wan did, and as we heard in Sith, he'd be communicated with Qui Gon while on Tattooine.

Bad spoiler:

Billy Dee Williams was spotted on the set for a few days.  There's grainy pictures

That's the tricky thing. Nothing about your good spoiler is a spoiler, but people will mark those as spoilers.

The bad spoiler would definitely be a spoiler.

I want to read those things that you consider good spoilers. I don't want read the actual spoilers (your bad spoiler).

But there is just no way to know what is inside a spoiler tag. I would hope that this thread could be a "true spoiler" free thread. If you want to post an actual plot point, the first thing you should ask yourself is whether most people would want to read it or know about it ahead of the film. If there is speculation or a strongly supported theory that could be a spoiler if true, but not based on a true leak, that seems like the type of thing you could put behind the tag. For example, before TFA, you could have said, I think Han Solo will die. He is supposedly in a mentor type role and Ford probably doesn't want to do more films and wanted him to die in jedi.
