He has so much empathy. Like so many of his followers say, it’s like he was put here by god to lead us in these challenging times.

Bush says "Brownie, you're doing a heckuva job" in regards to FEMA Director Michael Brown's catastrophic handling of Katrina and his approval ratings in office plummet and ruins him politically for the remainder of his term in office. As it should have I might add.

This guy is chucking paper towels like basketballs at hurricane victims and people are like, "meh, whatever, it's just Trump being Trump!" His incredibly cold, lifeless, botched response to the disaster in Puerto Rico should have been like thing #1,756 that ended him politically for good, it sadly did not.

While his response to Puerto Rico would have sank any other Presidency, it's worth noting how similar comments about other disasters would have been major faux pas had they been uttered by Obama, Bush, etc.:

Trump was on a conference call with state and federal leaders in preparation for another dreadful hurricane season. During the call, Trump thanked the Coast Guard for its service in helping save 16,000 people after Harvey, Hurricane Maria and other storms. The Coast Guard doesn’t “get enough credit,” Trump said.

"Sixteen thousand people, many of them in Texas, for whatever reason that is. People went out in their boats to watch the hurricane,” Trump said. “That didn't work out too well.”

If it was any other Presidency, they would have been torched... but because it's Trump and because people hold him to a low standard than any serious politician, it's just another day ending in 'y'

I like how he says as usual as if it is somehow Puerto Rico's fault.

Amazing. Trump now has more individual contributors from the state of Washington than any candidate for any party there has ever had......ever. And he has more donations from the state than the top six democrat candidates (combined).

For Washington state GOP, it just keeps getting worse

Quote

You may have thought I was going to say the party is bouncing back. That’s what used to happen in politics, as no party was down for long. But these are not normal times.

“The gap right now between the parties is the largest we’ve ever recorded,” says pollster Stuart Elway. “It’s 20 points — that’s a huge number for Washington state.”

The dean of the state’s political pollsters, Elway has been measuring voter sentiment in our state for more than four decades. He did his Ph.D. in the ’70s at the UW on partisan preferences. For him to say the gap is the largest it’s ever been here, well, it’s really saying something.

His most recent survey, conducted with local news website Crosscut, found that 41% of state voters now identify as Democrat. That’s high, but not a record (46% identified as D in the heady Obama days of 2008).

What’s most unusual is how much Republican affiliation has plummeted. Twenty years ago it was routinely 35% (the whole state was about one-third D, one-third R and one-third independent). In 2012 Republicans were 30% and by 2016, after you-know-who came on the scene, it had dropped to 25%.

Now it’s just 21%. The gap between the parties is now four points wider than it was in the fall of 2018 — when Democrats flipped a congressional seat, three state senate seats and seven state House seats, to solidify one-party control.

“It could get worse, too,” Elway said. “With Trump at the top of the ticket, I don’t know how they are even going to field a team in the next election.”

Elway is a former Republican himself (his dad, Harry Elway, was a GOP state senator in the 1960s from Grays Harbor). The real “Trump effect,” he said, is that like no politician before him, Trump is forcing people to choose a side.

“I used to be able to do a fairly accurate poll by just reading the candidates’ names,” he said. “Now I don’t even need the candidates’ names. Only the party matters.”

The Trump effect has been especially brutal for the GOP locally. Voters here have long had liberal or libertarian views on social issues and immigration, so Trump’s at odds with that. But Washington also is the most trade-dependent state in the nation. So unlike previous Republican presidents, Trump’s at odds with that, too.

The result is that since his inauguration, Trump’s approval rating has plummeted more here, 27 points, than in all but two other states (New York and New Mexico), according to pollster Morning Consult.

Elway also recorded a huge gender gap, with local women now identifying as Democrats by a 27-point margin, 47-20.

Amazing....

Almost like looking at donations alone doesn't tell the whole story.

There is an American being held in Russia for 8 months now. He needs hernia surgery and has been injured in prison. He, of course, is being held on spying charges which is typical for these fascist regimes. Nothing from Trump but of course Trump was concerned about a person being arrested for assault in Sweden that was caught on camera.

GDP the last three quarters:

1.1   3.1  2.0

I remember when Stan said it was going to reach 5 or 6.  What happened?

He doesn't even pretend anymore, does he?

Politico is reporting:

The Trump administration is slow-walking $250 million in military assistance to Ukraine, annoying lawmakers and advocates who argue the funding is critical to keeping Russia at bay.

President Donald Trump asked his national security team to review the funding program, known as the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, in order to ensure the money is being used in the best interest of the United States, a senior administration official told POLITICO on Wednesday.

But the delays come amid questions over Trump’s approach to Russia, after a weekend in which the president repeatedly seemed to downplay Moscow’s military intervention in Ukraine and pushed for Russia to be reinstated into the Group of Seven, an annual gathering of the world’s largest advanced economies. The review is also occurring amid a broader internal debate over whether to try and halt or cut billions of dollars in foreign aid.

United States military aid to Ukraine has long been seen as a litmus test for how strongly the American government is pushing back against Moscow.

Trump defenders are apt to tell us that we should judge the Trump Administration by its actions, not the president's words. And they have insisted that his policy toward Russia has been solid... so we await the latest pretzeled explanations and rationalizations for this move...
