Preseason 2016

I wouldn't call Drummond the key to anything Detroit wants to do.  True, SVG wants a strong post presence to draw double teams and kick it out to shooters.  But Drummond doesn't do that.

Last year in the post Drummond averaged .73 points per possession.  That puts him in the 29th percentile.  Nobody is going to double that and honestly, they probably prefer he posts up than kick to a shooter.

I think if you're gonna run a 1 in 4 out system, having a guy who can give you 15 and 15 inside helps. But no, pure post ups aren't the answer.

Game is blacked-out for me.

Ellenson would do well to pay attention and/or room with Leuer this season on the road.  Two versatile bigs that played college ball in the state of Wisconsin, why not?

Looking at the box:

--Lowry going off, 20 pts 4 AST in 20 MIN

--Pistons 1/13 3pt, same old stuff

--Nice to see Bebe getting some run, rooting for the kid

No Boban/Bebe matchup as of yet--at least I have no reason to regret not seeing this stinker as of now.

1/15 from 3pt.

Raptors backcourt taking our best defensive backcourt to school.

Free Silent G and Hilliard.

We need another PG quick, fast and in a hurry.  Brown/McCallum are a huge liability.

I don't want to give up a first for 20 games.

I would look at someone like Andre Miller or Kirk Hinrich, maybe Toney Douglas.  You just need 15 mins a night for 20 games, hopefully.

It's funny the first thing I find myself looking at in the box score is Drummond's FT%.  It's like I'm not even paying attention to anything else, just hoping and praying that the offseason fluff pieces I've read about him and his free throws would come to fruition.  So far that hasn't been the case.

No kidding.  Those guys are D-League talents, there's a huge drop off when Ish is out of the game and not the best game from Ish last night either although he has been good overall in the preseason.  SVG must find a backup ASAP.  What's Blake doing these days?  I'm surprised that SVG hasn't signed him yet unless he has somebody better in mind.

Douglas is a Cav, no?

Hinrich and Miller were my first thoughts. Hinrich seems more of a natural fit but IDK.

I don't want to give up a first for 20 games either, but if we did make a deal I assume we'd overpay a little.

The pistons are going to have to acquire someone right? I haven't been following the preseason games so I don't know who they have been using at point guard when smith is on the bench.

If the need is so obvious, is stan simply waiting for the end of the preseason to see if any players are cut?

Hinrich seems to be an obvious option to provide bench minutes for the start of the season.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to this season. I liked the composition of the starters last year, and the bench seems a lot better based on what you guys are saying.

They cut Douglas when they signed JR.

I have to think SVG is waiting for cuts, and that he doesn't want to part with either a pick or someone from the roster unless the situation is too good to pass up.

SVG will keep Brown if he decides to stay in-house, only because McCallum hasn't given him any reason to not cut him.  At least Brown has some size and can score a little if needed.

Hinrich should be a last resort option IMO, but an option none the less.  Phoenix has all those Kentucky PG/combo guards and we have an extra big--IJS.

I fear Morris overachieved last year and that he comes back down to earth this season.  I'll wait and see on Harris, who has plenty of upside left and showed us a sample after SVG traded for him.

The team needs more production out of the SF and SG spots--both bench and starting--for this team to make a leap.  That likely means that Stan Jr and KCP need to start drilling 3s in the mid 30% range and keep it up all year.

I guess if you're going with an old guy like Miller or Hinrich you might as well just snag Blake since he knows the offense.

If anything, his numbers were slightly down per/100.  What he did do a nice job of was maturing.  There weren't any hot headed blow up moments and for the most part he was pretty calm and collected.  No outbursts, not nearly as many dumb tech's, etc.

He was always a decent enough player.  He just wasn't good enough to put up with all the other BS he brought with him.  Now that's all gone he looks really good.  Hopefully the maturation process continues and he doesn't backslide.

His per/100 numbers.

Damn, Douglas is my boy. Liked him there haha

Kay Felder won the backup spot.

Interesting note.  The Pistons passed on Felder to take Gbinije.

I have my doubts on Morris having a better full season as a starter than he did last year.  He played a ton of minutes, too many really.  I do think that his maturation was a huge bonus, and I'all always be happy we picked him up.
