Probably the most pathetic series of the season given the stakes.  The only positive is we are one step closer to dumping Brad once and for all.

Will a new manager make them hit? Will a new manager make Mike Pelfrey not suck?

Hate being negative but it feels like things are slipping away.

Sure feels like that.

They had to start Boyd, Sanchez, and Pelf 3 straight days because they didn't have any other options. And the offense isn't even AL league average. It doesn't look good.

It is slipping away. They're on life support right now.

In a race this tight, and this heated, you absolutely cannot come away with a split in a 4 gamer against one of the worst teams in the entire majors. Especially with a 3 game set looming on the road against one of the best in baseball -- not to mention a team that has owned you to a laughable degree this season.

By the start of next week this ride may very well be curtains.

As streaky as they have been.  You shouldn't count out another hot ten day period

Boyd has pitched well enough to not be lumped in with Sanchez and Pelfrey.  Granted, he's had 2 clunkers in his last 3 starts, but he has given them a reasonable chance for the most part the season.

Sanchez had a rough 4th after blazing through the first 3 innings.  Eventually pulled in the 5th.  They managed to win this game.

Ausmus got Pelfrey out quickly enough, but not quickly enough to support the single run that the offense managed to put up.

I think in both the Sanchez and Pelfrey starts, neither starter showed signs of blowing up like they did until they did.  There was no reason to start the top of the 4th in the Sanchez start or the top of the 2nd of the Pelfrey start with relievers going hot.

These 3 games were there for the taking, but the 4 game series ends up being a 2-2 split.  Its baseball.  Most teams hover closer to a .500 winning percentage than a .750 or .250 winning percentage, and on the macro level, it works out fine.  But given the situation that they are in now, they really could have used that extra win in either the Boyd or Pelfrey start.

Does this team even deserve to be in the playoffs? They would probably embarrass themselves.

You just might be on to something there.................................

Definitely a missed opportunity. Let's go 4-3 against the Indians and 6-3 against the Twins, royals, and braves to make up for it.

Let's go 7-0 against the Indians and win the division

(spoiler, we then get swept by the Braves and miss the playoffs)

could totally see that happening...

What would really suck is making it... going to the WS.... then having to be that team that loses to the Cubs for their big documentary. 30 for 30, shut down everything the cubs won.  That would make the 2004 Red Sox look like a forgotten team.

Of course what would be awesome is making ig... going to the WS.... then becoming that team that denies the Cubs once again. Brad outmanages "that genius over there".

Absolutely.  The 2 WSs that they did make recently didn't go so well.  But would anyone seriously trade those in for a 4th place 17 games out of first finish?  As rough as a ride as this might be right now, its so much more better than flopping through a noncompetitive season.

obviously.... the run there is worth it.  I'm referring more to the after effect and having to re-live it all through the endless replays that would occur.  Whatever team ends up losing to the Cubs if they ever win the WS will suffer... the Cards in 04 were able to get over it quickly thanks to our 2006 team not knowing how to field the ball.

I cringe every time they show a montage of final WS outs and I see Romo on the mound at Comerica Park.  It hurts.

I honestly don't remember anything about the 2012 series except for Panda hitting 3 homeruns and the final out.  It's like that entire series has been erased from my memory.  I've yet to see a replay of any of it.   Now the 2006 series I remember and see much more vividly.

Fister got hit in the head....

Elmon's throw from LF

I think that was when Fielder fell down coming home (Could have been a big inning)

Our big guns failing to come through in game 3 with guys on base.

Remember.... games 2-4 were very close.

Idiot Ausmus putting Berry in the 2 slot so he came up with bases loaded and one out, ahead of Cabrera.

The thing I remember most was how wet all the announcers got watching hunger pence throw sunflower seeds around in the dugout.

I sold my game 3 tickets, figuring I didn't want to risk missing a clincher and selling 1 game is pretty much a must. I sold those the night they beat the Yankees.  I netted over $500 for each ticket and with the WS games being $185, the ALCS games being $95, and ALDS were $65 (I think) it goes a long way to covering your cost.

The bad thing about it is by the time we got there for game 4 all the hubub was gone.  At least for game 3 you get the excitement knowing one win and they're back in it.   We went to the bar before and talked to some SF fans who flew in that very day for the game and were prepared to stay for the next night if necessary.  I was so envious of them.

I was torn on whether I even wanted the Tigers to win just for personal reasons.... a win would cost me $185.  Of course I was excited when Peralta almost won the game in the bottom of the 9th.  "Man, if they win we gotta come back tomorrow.... it's cold out here...."

But the baseball fan in me was glad to see a team win the WS in person.  The Giants didn't **** me off.   I was there in 1984 but really don't remember that much.  I was 11.  Back then it just seemed a natural thing to do.
