Anything can happen in the NFL, but a strange take to me. We were 6-2 with Cooter and 7-9 overall with a much tougher schedule. I can't see where we got worse. Did everyone else in the NFL get that much better? The D lost AQ, but I think Bush/Wilson/Kilebrew is probably as good or better than AQ and Ihedigbo. Overall the D, the DBs, the OL and the WRs are deeper

Well I stand corrected. How could anyone not be super excited after reading this? Bush/Wilson/Kilebrew. Nastradamus I can hardly contain myself

There is no evidence to show that our current safeties will be as good as last year's.  Also, they were 6-2 against an easy schedule after being bad against good teams (and the chiefs).

Remember the arizona game? It was a joke.

I dont see the ol as being improved.  I see the same players shuffeled around a bit and relying heavily on rookies.  The dline should be deeper i guess, and its a whole lot of average as opposed to just a little average.

I just dont see them being appreciably better than last year.  A few breaks and theyre 9-7.  Bad breaks and theyre 7-9.

Its like youre placing this year's draft class already as solid nfl contributors which is making a lot of assumptions.

It's just a very average roster.  There's not one unit that really stands out as top notch and the offensive line is full of young pups some of whom are learning new positions.   They are more than likely somewhere in between the 6-2 team that closed the season and the 1-7 team that started.   Average squad that is a distant 3rd place in their own division.

As you said, anything can happen, but the smart money is on the Lions being 8-8 or worse.

Hey, its always tough to say in the NFL, I agree.

The units that will have to be top notch for us to succeed with be the passing game and the DL. Very curious to see if Walker and Taylor can live up to some of the hype coming out of camp about them. We were top 10 in sacks last year I think people forget. I think an increase there is more likely than a decrease myself.

The Chiefs were quite good last year lets not forget. They pretty much ran train on the league from that point on and finished with double the positive point differential of the eventual super bowl champs. But whatever, that really isn't my point

I"m not expecting miracles or domination and I don't really have a problem with your 7-9 win range. Just saying, I can see some room for potential improvement at the least. This is what I'd throw in that category

- Cooter all year

- 5th most difficult schedule last year. Unlikely to happen again

- Better overall depth and/or talent at

CB - Mathis had gotten old, we add Carter and Walls and Lawson/Diggs being a year older is probably a good thing at their age.

DT - Walker is healthy,Charles and Robinson were added.

OL - I think Decker,Reiff and a full season of Ola is inarguably better than our top 3 OTs going into last year. I'll take Glasgow,Schwartz and Dahl over Manny and co. last year for interior depth. Tomlinson has upside, maybe Swanson too.

WR - Moore was our #3 entering last year. Maybe 6th or 7th this year? Obviously no Calvin, so weaker at the top, but I don't think we will particularly miss him the way our roster is constructed.

- At least some potential for internal improvement at LB and TE. Even if you think its highly unlikely, you have to admit that Levy and/or Ebron playing to their potential would be pretty impactful.

- Likely improved run game. Now, there are still issues here, but I think Cooter showed he can at least make sure we have a below average run game. We basically were historically bad under Lombardi. Not sure if the RB talent is better necessarily. Zenner stepping up would sure be nice. We could really use a guy in that role who can at least give us 500 yards on 4 ypc and maybe 6 TDs or so. Convert some short yardage situations and what not. Obviously Abdullah needs to hold on to the ball as well. Only time will tell there.

You are right about the Saftey situation. The counter argument is the D-line is improved, which should help the secondary. Bush by no means is a world beater but I think he can be a below average starter.

I don't see how anyone can not think the OL is improved. RT was a turnstile last year. If Decker doesn't get it together and quick, Reiff is going to reclaim the LT job which isn't the worse thing in the world.

I pretty much agree with you about how this team will finish I think 7 to 10 wins is likely.

Not sure how anyone could be excited about this roster. Easy schedule might get them to 8-8, but 7-9 is probably more realistic. I also share the same sentiment as others regarding Stafford likely getting injured this year.

NFC North doormats. We're back

This is the best roster we have had since the 90's.

How much slack is Caldwell given by Quinn you think? 4-5-6-7 games? Up to the bye week?

If, and only if, Austin is a serious contender for the HC job, I don't see Caldwell getting the axe mid-season.

Well, I suppose if we see just a complete and total melt down... 0-5 or 1-4 with obvious signs of lack of effort to preparation by the team then maybe.  But there just isn't too much you can do to course-correct in the middle of a season, so there isn't much incentive to make a major change mid-season at the HC spot.

The exception is if Quinn legitimately thinks that Austin could be the guy to be HC for 2017.  If so, then there is incentive to drop Caldwell and promote Austin as interim-HC.  Let Austin get his feet wet as HC, let Quinn see how he does with calling the shots.  Give him a 8-week interview.

I find this part interesting.  Do you consider the Bears a better team than the Packers or is this more of a random feel that they'll get lucky here but not there?

I think the conventional wisdom is that the Packers are still the best in the North.

I love the old prediction threads.  The people who predict them to be awesome always predict the lions to be awesome.  And us boring people always predict them to be 7-9, 8-8, or 9-7.

Still makes me laugh how some folks had them at 13-3 the year they won 0 games.

One of these days the people that always pick them to win 12 and 13 games will be right, I just hope that time comes in my lifetime.

They only failed to go 13-3 in 06 because the bounces didn't go their way.

We will start a win streak in Green Bay and we are due for a loss to the Bears.

I am disappointed in myself last year. I had a good slate of predictions in 2014 and followed it up with an 11-5 dud last year. Norman was passing the koolaid around one day and I got real thirsty and took a giant swig.
