Political Pot-pourri

The destruction of our government continues apace.

This consequential action that has gone completely under everybody's radar strips workplace protections for civil servants and will make it downright easy to fire them for ideological reasons, as well as to hire political cronies who have no experience.

This is terrible but it will get little traction in the media. President Trump proposed the *elimination* certain Federal pension components s in the FY21 budget and it got scant mention in the media.

Recently he advocated for the restoration of pensions for certain white collar worker's at Delphi. He/The White House made the following statements regarding that issue:

"As long as I am President, we will never waver in our undying loyalty to the American worker."

"President Donald J. Trump is Taking Unprecedented Steps to Protect the Pensions of American Workers!"

Bull****! He proposed pensions be eliminated for current/future Federal retirees!

Yes, he is a very bad man, even more so because he covers up the worst things that he does with the entertaingly less bad things that he says.

in response, facebook decided to flag a couple jacobin posts.  twitter, otoh, just suspended the nypost's account for a week based on some gobbledygook "standard" they invented that, if applied, would result in the suspension of most mainstream news outlets, including fox news and the nytimes.  i suspect that "standard" will disappear if biden is elected and magically re-appear in 4 years when twitter wants another democrat elected.

its going to be interesting to see what the government does with the big social media platforms.  the democrats and republicans may find common ground in going after amazon/facebook/google with anti trust actions.  i doubt they can agree to a standard to muzzle "hate speech" on twitter, although i suspect twitter will continue to try to police itself to avoid more government regulation.

Good. Social media is the worst thing to have happened to news media in the last 10 years and has only served to polarize people further. I'm of the belief that everyone should log off social media, but media can use their websites to publish nonsense if they want.

Militias: they're not just for Michigan anymore.

You never hear about militia in Massachusetts.

They can't even do a protest.  It takes them months to get a permit and there is a big fee.  Then they take the wrong exit at a rotary on their way to Boston and get stuck in a massive traffic jam.  They never get there.

Yeah, the tolls are too high in NJ on both the Turnpike and the Garden State Plaza. We ***** from our living rooms.

I'm not going to pretend to have a ton of knowledge on Kildee, but I never thought of him as a progressive democrat.  From a political standpoint, I would love to see the democratic party embrace the centrists that were the reason they took the house two years ago and focus less on the coasts.  I think that would align better with a Biden presidency as well.

I have no clue where the label fall any more. Both the GOP and Democratic centers keep moving. I guess if you don’t agree 100% with someone or group you are classified as the opposite.

My own demarcation falls somewhere to the left of Obama/Biden and anyone who even as sniffed in the direction of the Tea Party (in other words 99.99% of Republicans)

Herein lies a good hypothesis of why GOP and Democratic centers keep moving:

In short: GOP keeps moving right because they can win electoral power without winning most of the votes, so they can indulge their darkest instincts in their campaigning; and Democrats keep moving back to the center because they have to appeal to people who might not normally vote for them in order to win electoral power.
