Religion has been conscripted into the service of racism from the beginning. It didn't take long at all for some clever slave trader to realize that he could get away with calling black Africa the children of Noah's cursed son Ham. Few things are easier than shaping allegory to fit the convenience of the beholder.

No indeed. Few if any of us in the dominant culture were ever taught what has been done in our name. To me this is what "woke" is all about. Most of white American has lived, and to too large a degree, prefers to keep living in blissful ignorance of how we have gotten to where we are.

We got a lot of teaching on slavery, the civil rights movement, Jim Crow, etc. about the south.   Virtually nothing on other areas of the country.

Judging by Kirk's response to mask wearing, it doesn't sound like the apple falls too far from the tree.

Strange how those protesters aren't throwing objects at police, looting stores, or burning cars and buildings.

I don’t recall the protestors in that DC park throwing anything at police before they were tear gassed to make way for that Fat Orange ****.

Please don’t lump protestors with looters.

The ones tear gassed in DC weren't done by the Metro Police. Those were feds.

Please don't lump Metro Police with Trump's Gestapo.

Why would Antifa light their own backyard on fire? Why wouldn't they got to a red state like Utah or Idaho to start wildfires?

The same reason Communist China would produce and release a disease in their backyard to take down Donald Trump.

To take attention away from their motives.

He has had problems with drug addiction in the past.  I seriously wonder if he has relapsed.

Just ****ing horrific.

Not clear on what the federal government should be doing but hasn't.  I do know that Texas (with a republican governor)  has been been sending firefighting crews out there to the west coast.  In fact, one from my area lost her life recently battling the fires.

From Trumpy Rednecksville east of Portland:

Not clear what they're trying to keep things safe from, which makes it all the more sketchy.

Edit: I suppose it's the nonexistent antifa/BLM arsonists that have(n't) set half the state on fire.

Interesting Gallup poll.  Scroll down to the chart, "American Views of U.S. Business and Industry Sectors 2020."

The bottom three are Sports, Pharmaceuticals and the Federal Government.  Even lawyers, Hollywood, and Advertising are viewed more positively.  That's pretty bad. LOL

@Gehringer Said something in another thread relative to taxes and it reminded me of this article that I read recently.  Seems not to be just the U.S.  Lots of tax complications in Germany for U.S. soldiers, especially if they marry a German.  It never used to be thus.  https://www.stripes.com/news/europe/harassed-by-german-tax-offices-more-us-military-families-face-financial-threats-1.638976

We have a number of challenges facing this state, from unemployment to cities and counties having to make tough budget choices as a result of COVID. Not to mention parents being asked to make sacrifices, whether their children are at home or in school, and cases that are increasing on college campuses across Texas.

And *this* Twitterversy is what the Junior Senator chooses to focus on.

C'mon Ted... get your head in the game.

His constituents want it.  Honestly, I don't think it is necessary to SHOW graphic material depicting children to convince people it is a bad thing.   Any more than it is necessary for people to look for child porn online and view it to understand that it is wrong and abusive.

I'm gonna hazard a guess that most of his constituents have never heard of this documentary. At least as of today.

And as a constituent of his, I wish he would focus more on things that more Texans *did* care about
