Summer roster: Veteran guard Phil Pressey will be on the Pistons' summer roster, assistant general manager Brian Wright said. Pressey has played for Boston, Philadelphia and Phoenix, and most recently in the D-League. Forward-centers Jordan Bachynski (Arizona State) and Kaleb Tarczewski (Arizona) also are expected on the roster.

Plus the two rooks, even though Nigeria doesn't want Gbinije to play.  He is playing for their national team this summer.

It kinda snuck up, but the Pistons play the Knicks today at 3PM.

They play again Monday at 3PM, Tuesday at 5PM, and Thursday at 5PM.

They also play Friday at a time TBD.

In 3Q of NYK game and both teams look like it's their first game.

Early impressions:

--Stanimal's outside stroke looks slightly better, perhaps a more efficient motion with a higher release point, ball handling looks the same.  Playing the game more mature.  Even more jacked than last time I saw him.  Nice effort on glass.

--Ellenson is young and needs to grow into that big body some more, but the talent is there even if the execution will need to level out.  Reminds me of a baby animal that hasn't grown into its long legs yet.  The Leuer move was definitely needed, the kid needs time.

4Q Edit:  Ellenson showing sweet stroke, ability to finish drives.  Still not much on the glass today.

--Silent J looks good out there, can do some of everything and plays D.  Picks up dribble really early with backcourt pressure, but still looks better than Brown (not saying much).  Will need to keep working on handle to play PG in the NBA.  Missed some nice looks from deep, pretty stroke but doesn't repeat it every time.  And then he hits a three glass (didn't hear him call it).

--Pressey looks great with the ball, plays fast.  I swear he gets shorter every time I see him.  Would be a great time to have in GR, Brown is not a PG.

--Dejuan Summers is playing for the NYK team.  I saw him play SL in Vegas right after the Pistons drafted him and Daye, not the same player after the Achilles injury.  Crazy he's playing SL in 2016.

--I like Kaleb Tarczewski for GR,  would be ince to stash him in GR.

I hope to watch yesterdays game sometime tonight.

We are co-hosting a BBQ tomorrow for over 300 people, so I have been busy with those details.

Well, nothing the kids did really stood out to me.  They didn't look bad either.  SL is so hard to judge.

SJ with the ball on the break, man.  I'm marking down a TO before he even gets over midcourt.

watched the second quarter and half of the third today of the Magic game:

--Ellenson looking active again today.

--Stanimal's midrange game was working.

--No Silent G today, out for the rest of SL with an ankle sprain.  Upon finding out, I flipped it off because I was getting tired of watching Lorenzo Brown.

--The Zimmerman kid from UNLV needs to physically mature, but the kid could be a nice player someday for Orlando or elsewhere.

--Love me some Nick Johnson, hot and cold from outside just like his uncle used to be.

Brown's going to end up as our 4th PG this year. Or 3rd if they consider Gbinije a combo guard instead...

Unless we uncover someone better...

Pressey might be too much like Ish. Brown offers size and defense, just as an alt-option to Ish...

Watched the game today and really wasn't impressed. I'm not concerned with the other guys, so I just watched Stanley and Ellenson, on and off the ball.

I'm not sure what Stanley is working on, but I see no difference in his game. His shot is still flat (he was something like 3-14 today), he struggles to finish (he got blocked at least twice), and his handle is still rough. On the positive side, I like his effort and energy on defense as usual.

The Ellenson pick continues to leave me unimpressed. His shot was off today, so the one good part of his game wasn't on display. He gets pushed under the boards on every play and can't even get position with his man on his back. Serious lack of strength and these aren't even NBA level players. His defense is atrocious, both on the ball and especially defending the screen due to his lack of athleticism.

I was really hoping to see Gbinije play, but sadly he's out for the entire summer league with the ankle injury.

Agree on the analysis. I don't think he has the quicks to play at his current weight so I think he's going to have to bulk up for a year or two and be a bigger type of player. Hopefully while maintaining some quickness at the increased weight while having a good jump shot.

Was gone all day and watching now. Brown is brutal.  Total summer league garbage player just looking to get his, missing open guys, jacking up any and every shot he can.

Summer league kind of sucks when you don't have a high profile rook to watch.

Any concerns that stanley is playing awful in summer league?  By year two guys like kcp looked real good in summer league.  Stanley is younger, but like betrayer said, he doesnt look any better and should be dominating journeymen players by now.  Instead he still cant shoot and turns the ball over too much.

Ellenson looks like a rookie.  Lots of room to grow there.

I wouldn't say I'm concerned with Stanimal, but that quantum leap some here were looking for certainly isn't there.  Yes, he's working on his weaknesses OTJ out there but I think the player we saw last year is going to resemble the player we saw this year a whole bunch.  One positive I've seen so far is that he's really asserting himself on the glass, which Detroit really needs him to to this year.

Working on them and having the ability to correct them are two different things.

His shot looks the same to me: broke.

SJ is just a raw athlete.  And I think Pistons brass and fans probably thought more of him than he warranted coming out of college.  If you are looking for him to make a big leap with his shot and playmaking ability next year, you will probably be disappointed.  There are going to be a lot of write ups on his what he is doing to improve this offseason and I believe it is all just fluff.  That said,  I would not give up on him.  You will hear a lot of bust whispers next season but if he focuses on being a defensive stopper and transition dynamo, then he can be a valuable player for the team.  The skill stuff though that fans want to see next year is going to come further down the road IMO.
