Jahvid Best headed to the Olympics?

Recommended Posts

Here's the DetNews story: http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2016/05/16/jahvid-best-rio-olympics/84455528/

Select quotes:

Best, 27, is trying out for the St. Lucia Olympic track team leading up to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Best's father is from St. Lucia, located in the Caribbean, but Best still needs to obtain citizenship.

...

He competed in track and field in high school at Richmond (Calif.) Salesian while also playing for its football team.

He's quoted in the story about how he wants to being honor to St. Lucia:

“I just want to bring pride to Saint Lucia, to the Olympic team, to the sport of athletics. I want to carry the flag around the track and make my family and country proud. I will be seeking a place on the team, representing my country would mean a lot to me, and to my family.”

This seems odd considering he's only been there a couple of times from what I can tell.

Still, I hope it works out for him better than the football career did.

IIRC, Mark Aguirre played for, or at least seriously considered playing for, the Mexican national team in the 1992 Olympics.

The appeal simply is it is the Olympics and it is a big honor / thing to be able to claim one was an Olympian.

I dont like the Olympics.   The players and coaches should actually have to be real actual citizens of the country, AND, Olympians should have to use the same equipment.  Let's see who the real best athletes are - not the ones with the best technological edge.  Its supposed to be about athletes, not engineers................but what's the point, I think all of them are doped up and the ones that are "clean" are just finding new undetectable drugs.

Lance Armstrong for instance (I know, not Olympics).   Yeah, he doped - most of his sport did, why should he sit that part out.    But it was the way he acted towards everyone that made me not like him, not the drug use.   Can't wait for that movie.....Bradley Cooper will be really good in that.

Lance set up a fund with millions of $$ to pay for men's sperm to get frozen and stored when they have testicular cancer. The chemo kills their future sperm count, or it can. Young men too. For that reason? He's OK in my book. Even though I don't generally like steroid users who deny it over and over.
