Vicious hits. Helmet to helmet contact? I hope he doesn't get hurt or get multiple suspensions. I hear the NFL is going to start looking into what causes concussions. Pretty soon it will be touch football or flag football. Nice pick though.

Southern Utah University. I was adding this thread quickly after the pick from my tablet and didn't feel like typing out the entire school name.

I honestly worry sometimes that the NFL as a sport will be gone before the Lions ever win a SB.  It seems at times that there is too much stacked against it with concussion problems there days.

I'm certainly not saying that the NFL shouldn't be looking into concussions and doing everything they can to minimize the possibility, but it also seems right now like it's the hot topic of the days:

NFL player does something dumb: Was it because of concussion??

Ex-NFL player deals with depression/commits suicide: Did concussions cause it??

Again, I think the NFL owes it to the players to research and do everything they can to minimize head trauma.  But I also think it's become just a hot button issue that everyone just assumes that a player in the NFL will have head trauma and will suffer mightily because of it AND that this percentage is significantly higher than not only the general population but other athletes as well.

I think of all the picks we made, Killebrew excites me the most. He is an unknown being both a 4th rounder and a D2 school player, so that itself presents some level of excitement. Unlike a Decker, Glasgow or Robinson, we aren't quite as sure what we're getting with Killebrew. He was rated between a 3rd and 4th round grade on many draft boards, so there is the potential for an instant starter. I would be lying though if I didn't say what most excites me is that he hits like a freight train and has highlight reel hits.

Ahh... that makes sense.  I thought it was some sort of hybrid safety position! :)

Super safety (combination of playing in the box, at the on the right hash of the 45 yard line), it was created just for Teryl Austin's defensive scheme.

My theory is that the game will slowly start changing from a hitting league to a pull down league like rugby...you will not be able to thrown your body at someone to tackle them you will have to use your arms to pull them down....the first year it fully becomes that rule the Lions will win the Super Bowl and the jokes will take over our world for eternity.  I do not think I would mind seeing a league like that.  Remove most of the padding and have guys go one on one, but with the new rules so you would not have guys missiling at each other...you have to catch them and drag them down.  Which could result in other injuries, but that is what tweaking the rules is all about and you would greatly reduce the head trauma issue.  At least I think it would.

Hmm... interesting idea.  I wouldn't be opposed to a "pull down" league either.

I do think there is a certain irony re: protection/padding... on one hand it's designed to prevent injury.  Yet on the other hand it makes players feel they can be more aggressive as their bodies are better protected, which means more injuries happen, which means better 'armor' is needed, which means players are more aggressive, which means...

I can't wait to see him play myself.
