An Opening Day no-no would raise eyebrows around the league.

Bob Feller would probably rise from the dead in anger.

I have learned to go right to the mute button as soon as the inning ends since MLB.tv is playing the same Bollywood-infused LG commercial over and over, followed by a rotation of celebrity vignettes and sentimental player vignettes.  Please give me back my "Commercial Break" bumper and blessed silence.

I guess if you want a Mendoza line catcher who's good at defense he's your guy.

Isn't that a backup catcher, by definition? Especially since he's a hook at the plate.

Alex was a great guy, he was just a horrible hitter. Just hard to be a good MLB player when you can't hit.

Unless..........you can pitch. :)

funny thing with Alex is that I'm no coach, but it seemed pretty clear to me that he was never going to hit successfully from the approach he was using, He was not getting his head set soon enough and if there is anything everyone agrees is true, you can't hit if your head is moving. He was chronically tardy getting his body and thus his head into hitting position. Maybe too long watching the pitch to work those walks? Anyway - it drove me crazy because I thought it was an obvious problem.

To that end, I've long thought that coaching is a vastly underrated aspect contributing a player's success, or lack thereof. That's what I bet "change of scenery" is really all about. You go from one coaching system to another and that can make a huge difference in performance in either direction.

Koufax said he didn't try to strike out batters, and he wanted them to try to get the bat on the ball because - I'm guessing here - he was pretty sure they couldn't do much with it.

How is Edwin Jackson still getting work?

Well he cost the minimum for the Marlins, not so much for the Cubs.

I said that more for its comic value, but in truth he was fairly decent last year.

If he'd've jacked a **** instead, the censor would have done its work.

Mario uttered "defensive runs saved." Is this something new?

I hope they keep showing that stat.

We can now mention The Thing: it was a no-hitter, and it's no longer in play. o.O
