From Marlins Park in Miami, Florida, it is the...

DETROIT TIGERS
versus the
MIAMI MARLINS

Justin Verlander (0-0, 0.00)

Verlander makes his eighth career Opening Day start after a one-year hiatus, a reward for a dominant stretch run last year. Verlander posted a 2.27 ERA and allowed a .207 BA over his final 14 starts, surrendering 74 hits over 99 1/3 innings.

Wei-Yin Chen (0-0, 0.00)

The Marlins acquired the left-hander to provide a strong one-two punch at the top of the rotation with Jose Fernandez. But few saw him starting Opening Day. Chen has at made least 30 starts in three of his first four seasons.

This is where the 2016 world series champion team resides.  And I'm not talking about one of the Great Lakes.

This will be the first opening day in almost 13 years that I will not be able to attend or watch.

I will, instead, be enjoying the musical stylings of Iron Maiden (excellent! ) at The Palace.

This sounds a lot like Impemba's "right handed offerings" when announcing pitcher after going through the starting lineup at the beginning of the 1st inning.  He's grown on you, hasn't he?

I'm channeling Milquetoastio? Shoot me.

I am drinking the Kool-Aid a lot earlier this year than is normal.  I'm getting too excited too quickly.  And this highlight reel is baseball porn for me.  But after the 22nd walk off homerun I suddenly lost interest.

Feels like it has been awhile since we have opened the season with a night game.  That is the time we are usually giving the kids baths.  I will up that schedule and hang out and watch the first pitch with my son in my lap.  They will get to watch a couple innings before it is bed time.

My usual routine involves not working, grilling hot dogs and drinking a couple beers.  This year I will just sit with the kids watch a few innings until they go to bed and then enjoy the rest of the game.

I, for one, am really happy that we are starting on Tuesday this year.  The worst thing in the world is having Tiger's Opening Day, and then an off-day the next day. That off day is the longest day of the year.  Two straight games this year is great.

Especially after we go 2-0 headed back to Detroit.

Figures. One of the milder winters in Michigan, and now when baseball comes back we are going to have some of the coldest temps since January.

Just ordered three new Tiger caps. So this guarantees a playoff spot.

Book it.

I hate that we have to wait an extra day or two compared to everyone else! Not sure about the nighttime opener either...just feels different. I suppose it saves me a vaca day since I usually take it off and watch the game on TV.

I'm just ready to watch the Tigers.

Just saw on MLBN that it is officially the second game of their first Live Games Double Header.

The Cleveland Indians home opener today with the Red Sox has been canceled due to sketchy weather.  And Boston itself is supposed to get 6 to 8 inches of snow tonight. Glad the tigers are starting in Miami. Hopefully things will get better before Friday's home opening in Detroit.
