2016 Tiger Transactions

Recommended Posts

A little late getting this started. First some catchup:

DSL players Sandy Rodriguez, Derlin Espinal, and Gregoris Hidalgo released.

Manny Pina re-signed (he and Austin Green should handle the catching at Toledo).

Soon-to-be 27 year old rhp Eduardo Figueroa signed. AAA/AA in '14, missing in '15.

Two 18-year old rhps signed for DSL: Omar Feliz, Jose Ramirez.

Milb free agents have been trickling in all weekend on the milb.com transaction logs. So far, everyone I had listed as eligible have declared except for 4 guys: Thad Weber, Miguel Gonzalez, James Robbins, and DSL lefty Melvin Morel. I wonder if any or all of them have re-signed.

Too lazy to list them all here, but if you look on the Tigers website under Transactions and go back to July, you'll find 16 Dominican and Venezuelan kids that they signed on or after 7/2. I came up with 16 by counting only the kids who have yet to make their pro debuts.

RHP Kyle Dowdy was the Tigers' 12th round pick in the June draft. According to Baseball America he signed ($100,000 bonus), but I can't find any trace of him anywhere. Multiple inquiries (by myself and others) have been made on Tigstown, all of which have been meet by a thunderous silence. Anybody know anything?

BBA is out with the complete list of milb FA's. Only surprise is that Edgar De La Rosa is not listed. Milb.com has him listed as a free agent.

Jiwan James re-signed. Was kinda surprised that he never made out of LFT last season, but maybe they were taking it easy with him after all his health issues.

I asked about Dowdy right after the short-season started and never heard a peep !

From Mark from "another forum" (I asked the same question there):

"Finally got around to asking about this; sorry for the delay everyone.

It's a pretty simple answer, really. Following the draft and 2014 surgery, the Tigers determined Dowdy had already reached his innings limit for 2015. He'll be back in action in the spring."

Thank you so much !

Three more Venezuelan teenagers signed (11/2): rhp Edgar Escalona, if Mike Torres, of Jose Quero.

Never seen such inactivity on the milb free-agent front this late into the off-season. All I have so far is Manny Pina and Jiwan James (and apparently Edgar De La Rosa) re-signed, and Eduardo Figueroa brought on board.

?????????

Can a mod merge this thread with my 2015 Tigers Transactions thread? Mine should have been 2016 anyway. I just listed the free agents the Tigers signed with their reference stats.

Good idea JBK. I tend to concentrate on the minor-league side of things, so your input could complement mine to make this a complete transaction log.

By the way, Chad Green and Luis Cessa have gone to the Yankees in exchange for lefty reliever Justin Wilson.

We can add IF Tommy Field to this meager list... if depth at Toledo (think Josh Wilson).

Looks like nobody got snatched in the Rule 5 draft (major or minor-league phases). Glass half full: whew!....Glass half empty: shows how thin the farm system is.

Two Tiger pickups in the AAA phase: Round 1: rhp Curt Spooner (Angels); Round 2: rhp Santiago Garrido (O's). Dunno nuthin bout either guy (yet).

Spomer: AA/AAA reliever, 27 next June, apparently a 2012 non-drafted free agent signing out of Creighton by the Angels.

Garrido: AA reliever in '13 and '14, no record in '15. 26 year-old Dominican signed by Royals in '07.

C Manny Pina is the ptbnl in the K-Rod trade. So long Manny.

Milb free agent signing (with ST invite): rhp Preston Guilmet, 29 next July, #9 pick by Cleve in '09. Closer type, rocketed thru minors, has had a few cups of coffee in the majors, but has been traded sold, and dfa'd so many times I figure there must be a back-story there somewhere.

They're coming hot and heavy now: two more milb FA pitchers: lefty Anthony Fernandez and righty Jake Brigham.

Details at 11.

Fernandez: Dominican starter, 26 in June, reached AAA but seems to have been injured for most of '14 and '15.

Brigham: 28, Texas #6 pick in '06, also a starter (mostly), 12 relief appearances for Braves last year.

Ross Seaton and Rafael Dolis both re-signed.

New milb FA pitcher: Ruben (RJ) Alaniz, 25 in June. Astros non-drafted free agent 2009. AA, starter mostly, until recently.
