10/18/15. Bears at Lions. Week 6. Fox, 1:00 pm.

That has to be one of the worst officiated games I've seen in a while

When you have two B-Movie football teams playing you get B-Movie refs. NFL is more worried about making money than getting the game right.

I'm gonna need more info on the rule then... it seemed pretty clear that Fuller would never have touched that ball unless the other guy fell on him and pushed in (not deliberately) to the ball.

Edit to add: FWIW, the rules guy seemed to indicate it couldn't be overturned because on replay the refs can't look at if a guy is pushed (judgement call), only if the ball was touched or not.

NFL Rule 9, Article 2, Section 4 says that “a player is not considered to have touched the ball if he is blocked into it by an opponent, provided he is in a passive position and not blocking. A player who is engaged with and blocking his opponent when he contacts the ball is deemed to have touched the ball.

I went off of this. I think the rule is there to prevent defenders from pushing people in the back into the ball. In this case Fuller was still blocking right up to the moment he realized the ball was behind him. Then he tried to dive/fall out of the way. There's even a moment where you can see he's considering trying to grab the ball before he tries to lunge out of the way.

The Lions won the war of who sucks less.

Both teams are below average and it clearly showed today.

Even though the Lions don't look good, it would be nice to be 2-4(Seattle garbage game should be a win) right now because the next 2 games are against below average teams too.

Does anybody feel better about this team after this win? I sure don't. They have regressed horribly the past two weeks, to the point where it feels like some of those bad teams that played poor defense and once in a while outscored a bad team.

You wouldn't know it with the way fans are calling into the radio. How many dumb penalties and plays can a team make? Geez. This team is garbage. Beat someone decent. My god.

Fans calling in on the radio seem to. Its back to stafford is great and cj is still unstoppable, and the lions are a good team, blah blah, lead by dan leach and his over optimism.

Oh well, i guess we need more positivity in this world. I feel no better about the Lions. I think today's game showed us more of what they really are. They did alot to try to give the game away. They made tons of stupid mistakes and barely got past a bad chicago team, at home. And the actually got some ref help in this game. I don't trust stafford. I think any nfl qb can throw a perfect pass once in awhile. Stafford still makes dumb mistakes and is inconsistent. Nothing changed in this game. Win against good teams please.

I wasn't cheering for 0-16, but I am hoping that they do crash and burn considering the season is, for all intents and purposes, over; if we end up the season 7-4 to finish 7-9 the front office can spin the season in a positive light; "we started off slow, but the team responded to the coaching staff and now we have something to build off of." IMO, this team won't get to where they need to be until we have a major overhaul starting with the front office (Mayhew and company) and the best way to guarantee that is to fail miserably this season.

I called for us to tank the final 3 games of the season in 2011 so we could get Patrick Peterson (I also wanted Prince Amukamara) in the draft that year. When we went on that late end of season winning streak and lost out on the Peteron sweepstakes I said it was doing us more harm than good. I was told I was crazy and ridiculed for ever suggesting a team tank. Peterson sure would look good on this defense now. And those wins we got at the end of 2010, they netted us little positive in the long-term. I fear that we may do the same thing this year and end up as you said, 6-10 or 7-9 and lose out on the Connor Cook or Jared Goff sweepstakes. Losing out means we are stuck with Stafford and likely to see him get extended if Mayhew is still around town. I did't/don't want to see us go 0-16, but I also don't want to miss out on one of Goff or Cook.

Despite 1-5 and the ugly win in a game of two irrelevant teams, five straight against Chicago is still sweet

I feel better in the same sense that I felt better whenever the 2003 Tigers would get a hit. At least they won't be no-hit and save some level of embarrassment as a fan.

Now at least I won't be a fan of a time that twice went 0-16... well at least not in 2015.

I really don't think the Lions will try to draft another QB unless:

1. Mrs. Ford passes away

2. Her 4 children decide to sell the Lions

3. New owners clean house and start over

4. New GM decides to get rid of Stafford

The chances of all the above happening is pretty slim.

My thoughts:

The Bears suck

Lions Run D was surprisingly good given it was the Fluellen, Reid, and Tulloch show in the middle of the D.

Bynes is good

Looks like throwing it deep to Megatron might just be a good playcall

lol @ the fumbles

I love seeing a play that is designed so poorly it has no chance of succeeding. The only thing the Colts are good at is complaining.

Just throw the ball deep to Calvin.

I don't know how the Bears have won any games.

Patriots vs Packers in the Super Bowl.

It seemed as if the Colts had no intention of snapping the ball and then the dude snapping the ball unexpectedly snapped the ball.

It was so terrible that even if they lucked out and got a first down it would have been an illegal play.

I thought the Lions had some terrible coaches but the coach that drew up that garbage may be on the same level as them.

That was literally the dumbest play I have ever seen at any level.

It made the pass call at the end of last year's Super Bowl look doctoral thesis level smart.

What were they hoping for? The Patriots to jump offsides?

From the looks of it, I think that was their intention because once they snapped it, it was an illegal play.

Correct. The Lions tried their best to fumble the game away but the Bears sucked just enough for the Lions to win this terrible game.

I heard about this on the radio coming in, but holy crap, what the hell was that? I mean, wow... what were they possibly thinking.

Exactly. That is what was so asinine about the formation - it was very clearly / obviously illegal (and I am no rules hound by any means).

There was no pressure on the Pats to jump because:

a. the D-line was almost completely unblocked which means they had no reason to expect the ball to even be snapped, but

b. if it were, there is no risk to giving up a big play because a penalty would be called, and

c. there was a crazy good chance to simply sack the QB on even an objectively horrible jump after a snap.

It was so stupid on so many levels, it hurt my head. The Colts hurt my head.

It is amazing that the Colts have won 3 games. They are very fortunate to be in probably the worst division in the NFL.

I wonder how much they'll offer Jim Harbaugh.
