Just now, Mr. Bigglesworth said:

I swear every old timey owner looked like he should be clutching a snifter of brandy while looking down contemptuously at the unwashed masses.

Shower more often to see that look less often.

Still hard to believe Tony Phillips is gone.

Norris turns 26. Time to get it done.

Phillips died of a heart attack in 2016.  I enjoyed the Phillips-Tettleton teams of the early 90s.  They didn't do well because they had no pitching but they had an excellent offense.  They didn't hit for average, but they could get on base, hit for power and score runs.  It was also a good time in my life. for following baseball.

Those were fun teams.  Cecil Fielder, even a resurrection of Kirk Gibson.

It was right after those teams that I fell into the only baseball fandom drought of my life.  I essentially missed the entire Bobby Higginson era - not coming back onboard until I was rooting for them in Aug/Sept of 2003 to not break the Mets record.  I was essentially working 17-18 hours a day, 7 days a week and missed a lot of things.

Well if you had to miss some years, those were a good choice.  I was excited about Juan Encarnacion but not much else.

I chatted with Virgil's daughter on facebook.  It was a fan page for Tedeschi Trucks Band, Derek is his nephew.

When you get BB King to say "That's about as good as I've heard it" then you can just quit on top.

Today's Tiger birthdays (5/7): Allan Travers (127, 1 game in 1912, died 1968).

Allan Travers was the starting (and losing) pitcher in the "Ty Cobb replacement game" on May 18, 1912.  He is still the MLB record holder for most runs surrendered in a single game (24) and most earned runs in a single game (14), though, incredibly, he did manage to strike out one Philadelphia Athletics batter.  Travers volunteered to pitch upon learning that the pitcher would be paid $30 by the Tigers, beating the $25 offered to position players.  Later in his life, Travers became a Catholic priest, making him the only ordained priest in MLB history.
