That batting stance where he moves his feet towards the plate whilst the baseball was being pitched.

I remember being quite excited that we'd been able to swap Eddie Brinkman for a power hitter.   4 HR's and 7 months later that dream was over......

Hal Morris was a major league first baseman whose arms looked as skinny as mine.

I got even more excited when he got two homers and seven RBI in his first three games.

Was Hal Morris the guy traded to the Tigers between games of a double header?

Woodie Fryman - The Doyle Alexander of the '72 club.   10-3 with a 2.82ERA after coming over mid season from the Phillies.  The future cost wasn't quite as high since the Tigs got him on waivers.

I'm surprised I don't remember this guy at all - one would think the mustache alone would have been memorable.

Steve Avery lives in the area.  I was serving beer at our church festival.  A few days after he got his first win in a few years he showed up at our festival and I gave him a free beer for the W.  He threw in $20 into the tip jar (it went to the school, not us).

About 5 or 6 years ago our church youth sports program ran a basketball league for 1st-4th graders. Steve coached one of those teams as his son played.  I got a chance to talk with him for about 10 minutes.  Nice guy.

Today is also the 64th birthday of Tom Runnells, who served as the interim manager of the Tigers in spring training of 1995, when Sparky Anderson refused to manage replacement players.  Runnells was the manager of the Toledo Mud Hens at the time and had previously served as the manager of the Montreal Expos after being hired by then-Expos GM Dave Dombrowski.

Pedro Garcia, another of the  line of 1970s 2B that made us love Lou so much when he arrived - the Josh Harrison of his day.   Hit a robust .198 for us in his age 26 season.
