George Korince, the only pitcher in history to strike out both me and Mickey Mantle. Mantle in 1968, when he had briefly made it all the way to the Tigers. He hurt his arm pretty soon after that and by 1975 was back home in St. Catharines, mostly playing first base and pitching occasionally for St. Catharines in the 6-team Niagara District senior league. I was playing for Thorold and struck out on 3 pitches the only time that I faced him. First pitch - high outside fastball, I hit an accidental check-swing rocket down the third base line about a foot foul (I bat lefthanded). Second pitch - right down broadway, big swing, fouled it straight back. Strike 3 - curve on the outside corner, I just looked at it.

In a different game he hit one of the hardest balls I've ever seen. It was a grounder up the middle for a base hit, I was playing center and fielded it after several hops, and it stung when it hit my glove. So there you go, that's my encounter with a major leaguer.

Warren Morris. I tell you what, 2003 could'of been a completely different story had Morris not languished in AAA Toledo until June.

I believe that it was Warren Morris of whom someone here once said "He puts the "R" in VORP".

Luis Alvarado. That's one bad looking mofo. A second baseman? I bet even Pete Rose would'of declined a take out slide on him on a potential double play.
