Today's Tiger birthdays

I think that if you check the historical temperatures for July 5 - a good sample too, you know, several years - you will find that it is too hot to have sex.  No sex on July 5 = no babies on April 5.

Hunged over from 4th of July, too.  At least here in 'Merica.

Oh, forehead slap.  How did I miss that.  So yeah, not only do the Tigers not have any players born on April 5, but never in the history of the United States has anyone been born on April 5.  So it's not at all surprising, with that as context, that the Tigers don't have anyone born on that date.  I guess that eventually there will be a shortstop from San Pedro de Macoris, or an outfielder from Maracaibo, but never a US-born player.

I worked for The Vulture's nephew for a period of time. He laughed when I asked if he ever called him Uncle Vulture.

That's great, The Vulture really reminds us of a time when "pitching wins" was a key measurements of success.  Kenny Williams, by the way, was one of those superb athletes who couldn't play baseball.

That series of cards is so atrocious and yet so stinkin' appealing for some reason.

I was absolutely thrilled with the acquisition of Nate Colbert, who then proceeded to stink the joint out.

so seeing Ike Brown's pic led me to looking him up on BR and I found an interesting tidbit. When Ike played, league range factors at short and 2nd totaled about 1.5 more plays per game than they do today. Another measure on the subtle shifts in the game - fewer ground ball outs.

Mooty did not sweat liquid perspiration.  Rather, he lost electrolytes in the form of a gaseous fog that surrounded him.

Not shown in the Frank Navin picture is the snifter of brandy condescendingly clutched in one hand and his other hand placed on his upper leg to maximize the effect that he is your better.
