2015 Off-season thread

Its somewhat like the Buffalo Bills, one of the best teams of all-time with 4 SB losses in a row.

I think the Tigers were more like the 90's Cleveland Indians.

Aoki gets 1 year and an option, $ not out there yet. Once again, I dreamed on Aoki only to see him sign for very reasonable terms elsewhere. Last year, while mourning the Aoki loss, the Tigers went out and got Cespedes. Hoping for something similar this year.

Aren't the Yankees considering trading Brett Gardner? I could see the Tigers getting involved in a deal like that.

There definitely seems to be a roster imbalance here with a suspect ML outfield and no immediate help on the farm (though we can still hope Moyà becomes something and Gerber is getting some press lately and could help in 2017).

The one prospect we have that seems to have some potential 2016 value and beyond is machado but he is blocked and also not needed as a utility guy with Romine doing that job well.

Machado is not going to be enough to bring back a legit LF but I think he would be a useful piece in a package.

I thought the 2012 Giants were good too but the Tigers could have won. But the Giants were not a bad team. I actually grew to like them because it seemed like every guy was a good defender, had speed, and could make contact. Appeared to be a very complete and well balanced team.

Agreed. The Giants have a very good organization, top to bottom. They draft well and have done well developing their picks

They have also been somewhat lucky in getting hot at the right time. They have not been as good as their playoff resume suggests.

I'd be cool adding Gardner. Might be better to just outright sign a guy like Parra.

Gardner isn't a disadvantage against lefties. Drop him in the order maybe, but still playable. Better overall hitter against lefties (and righties) than Maybin.

Is De Aza still available? He seems like the same type player but maybe a better fit in terms of the clubhouse and language compared to Aoki and may be cheaper

Hyun-soo Kim or bust. Give me a LHB that actually can get on base to plus in before Miggy.

I am fairly certain that he has signed with the Twins.

True, good point. Depends what they'd want I guess.

I think you are thinking of Park.

Yep, I googled it to see if it was the same guy, and the article I pulled up was referencing Park signing. My bad, skimmed too quick.

I'd like to see the Tigers trade Iglesias and Sanchez (and some other minor piece) to the Braves for Shelby Miller and Julio Teheran.....starting pitching problems resolved.

Then the problem would be that Tiger fans could not travel through the state of Georgia without being shot at by irate Braves fans.

aww, they'd get over it in a few years....Florida did.

I don't think Iglesias is a fit for Atl anyway. They're tanking this year and one of their best prospects is a SS who'll be ready for 2017. Castellanos would be a better fit for them.

The Tigers will non-tender right-handed reliever Al Alburquerque, I'm told.

Per Anthony French.

Mildly surprising. Not sure if this is a good sign about how they feel about bullpen acquisitions or a bad sign about putting too much faith in the young (currently) AAAA guys.

I was thinking they might non-tender Alburquerque. He was probably going to make around 2 million which seems OK for a pitcher of his caliber, but they didn't seem to trust him the last couple of years. They will probably use that money towards someone who has better control.

I view it as a sign there are trying to save a little $$$. Hopefully that means they will spend it.
