09/01/2015: Detroit Tigers (Verlander) at Kansas City Royals (Cueto) - 8:10 PM

Recommended Posts

Miguel Cabrera enters September with enough AB's to qualify, leads the AL in OPS by over 50 points (1.049), and somehow only has 17 HR's. That is weird.

Imagine going back in time to 1920 and going to Tiger Stadium on September 21. You wait until the game's over and find Norman Glaser.... he didn't have a good day. Only pitched 2 innings. That was his entire career. He probably was headed back to a factory or field or something to live out his life for 59 more years, assuming Ohio. "Sir... in 95 years a guy in NC is going to look at your photograph... "

I wonder what he would have said.

I randomly daydream about things like that. Imagine getting a guy like Thomas Jefferson here, like in Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure, and trying to explain the world to him.

He would probably understand more about the world than you might think, although he would be gobsmacked at all the black people walking around freely.

He may need that lead. He seemed as 'checked out' as the rest of them in Toronto this weekend.

This should be played on Out of the Park or some other baseball simulation game.

I didn't want to spend the time to set up a one on one series of games between the 2003 Tigers and 1927 Yankees, so I set up a four-team league including them as well as the 1939 Yankees and the 1976 Reds.

Bottom line: Tigers did better against the greatest teams in history than they did against the rest of baseball in 2003, losing only 108. Plus, D-Meat finished third in home runs.

I think Jefferson would be stunned that the US still existed. That would shock him more than any of the scientific developments... he was an inventor so I don't think he'd be surprised by the innovation.

I would bet the relationship between the sexes and the visibility of women in the world of everything would baffle him, too.

I think Jefferson would be chagrined at modern politics. Fox News, MSNBC, the Tea Party....all arguing nonstop over what the founding fathers "meant" by their writings, each side fully confident that Jefferson, Washington, and the like would be fully in their camp.

The only thing that would confuse the founding fathers would be what to make of cargo shorts.

Good heavens. Satchels directly attached to clothing?

I think Thomas Jefferson would have been very proud of his and Sally Jennings' great-great-great grandson George. Movin' on up, indeed.

Realistically, a sweep of the Royals this week is the Tigers' last best chance at taking a run at the division title. Otherwise their string of 4 consecutive AL Central titles might be coming to an end.

They're only 20 games back with 32 left to play. Nothing to it.

They always say that September games count double, so if our clutchiest players step up the task is only half as difficult as it appears.

Sherman Hemsley: Once the world's biggest prog rock fan.

George Jefferson: World’s Biggest Gong Fan?

“It was 1978 or 1979, and Sherman Hemsley kept ringing me up. I didn’t know him from a bar of soap because we didn’t have television in Spain (where I was living). He called me from Hollywood saying, ‘I’m one of your biggest fans and I’m going to fly you here and put flying teapots all up and down the Sunset Strip.’ I thought, ‘This guy is a lunatic.’ He kept it up so I said, ‘Listen, can you get us tickets to L.A. via Jamaica? I want to go there to make a reggae track and have a honeymoon with my new girlfriend.’ He said, ‘Sure! I’ll get you two tickets.’

If JV has a bad start tonight, don't panic. Even old JV had ****** outings from time to time.

I won't panic until he throws ****** games consistently.

Even if the Tigers lose tonight, Randy Wolf is starting tomorrow. The boys will not be swepted again.

The guys on The Ticket were saying JV's last four games is the best 4-game stretch of his career ERA wise. That's incredible.

Tigers won't be able to score on Cueto though. This will be a big chance for JV to get a 9IP no-hit no decision. Rondon to give up the walk off walk in the 10th.

It is incredible, that they would put so much stock into such a small sample size.
