GDT: Michigan at Utah 9/3/2015

..... The second half UM had 3 turnovers and turned the ball over on downs once. .....

at 4 pts per TO which is what some of the recent research pegs it at, that alone makes it a tie game. Turnovers are huge and M with Gardner was a TO machine.

I dont have a lot of worries about the starting oline, its the backups that worry me. I think they will be better because of harbaugh, a real qb, and they cant possibily be that turnover prone this year.

What worries me is the kicking game, the receivers (drake harris' hamstrings are key), and the pass rush.

I agree that these things are not strengths. These things don't worry me because I've already accepted they won't be great.

I think there's potential that a healthy, highly functionable O-line can help overcome these areas you've highlighted. And therefore that's the key to the season for me (as well as the DTs holding their own).

College football week 1 upset alerts: Ohio State, Alabama, TCU

How crazy would things get if Michigan beats Utah, and goes into mid October undefeated???

I don't think it would be that crazy. Rich Rod started 4-0 and 5-0 his final two years.

I have a few issues with that article:

First, it's rudock. Everyone knows it. Just say it.

Second, no one calls Michigan "Big Blue." That's unacceptable.

Third, under no circumstances is the offensive line being scrapped together. The unit is returning all five starters, most of whom were highly recruited.

I thought this was an interesting read on how Ferentz uses his QB's. It make you wonder if Harbaugh might develop talent in Ruddock that Ferentz just didn't care to exploit.

"THAT'S FOOTBALL" - Black Heart Gold Pants

and Big Blue is/as/will be IBM.

Dery spent a lot of time this afternoon complaining that if Ruddock were any good, he would have separated himself more from Morris, who he feels isn't (good, that is). But JH has to worry about next year as well. As long as Morris is a potential 2016 QB, whatever games Harbaugh plays to try and push his development - like listing him as co #1, may have to be taken with a grain of salt.

I think the Morris co-listing is just Harbaugh not giving out information. He's told the players who the guy is.

Despite the depth chart, there's already a #1 QB.

It would seem the last line is certainly true. Still, it's not like you have a #1 and couple/three guys working out behind him. Harbaugh has clearly separated Morris from the other depth players in a way there was no objective need to do. I think whatever the reasons for the co-listing, they have more to do with internal strategies than external ones. Ambiguity on the press release depth chart isn't going to make much difference to Whittingham's issues preparing for what is in effect a complete newly minted team.

I think the "OR" is clearly a motivation tactic. I think it also served the purpose of making clear who the next guy up will be, and gives them a bit of ownership in the role as well. Prepare like you are the starter. You are likely to be needed and it isn't going to be just so you can hand the ball off or kill the clock at the end of the game.

Whether that type of thing actually works is a whole other issue.

If one can believe persistent internet yammering (prior to the depth chart release) it may be to keep Morris engaged and not planning his transfer. My own guess would be that Morris may have the better raw tools but not the experience.

Thats more along the lines I was thinking also.

After spending more than a year unplugged from the cable/satellite, today I get it re-installed for one simple reason: Jim Harbaugh.

UM wins a close one.

I know my 34-17 prediction is over-confident, but it is what I want to see. I give it about a 10% chance of happening, but days like today are when legends are built. You know Jim will have success over the next 5 years, but if he could start of here with going undefeated and then UPSETTING Michigan state, then holy moses. You have yourself a story.

Do I think it will happen? Eh, Maybe. But jeez i hope it does!

I hope you are correct as well! Personally, I'd rather be wrong predicting a 2 TD win, than to be right and predict a loss in the first game of the year. I just can't bring myself to ever predict a loss in the first or second game of the season (now after we've lost 2-3 games, than I don't mind make a loss prediction).

MSU has zero percent chance of winning in Ann Arbor this season. Quote me on it.

Having ABC Detroit and BTN on my TV does me no good tonight. The Canadian station that normally picks up all of Fox Sports 1's programming is instead airing a replay of Italy-Malta soccer qualifying this evening. This is what socialism gets you. I am not amused.

I am in Pine Grove PA for business, dinner with client tonight. Not one bar or hotel in Pine Grove carries Foxsports1. Closest place is 30miles away. Ugghhhhh
