2015 53-Man Roster and Practice Squad

Recommended Posts

I seriously wish the team would find a Guard/ Center backup who is actually decent, and can also long-snap, to open up one additional roster spot.

And drop Moore to open up another.

There are guys here that we're going to end up releasing, and losing, that we DON'T WANT to...

I think you may be right about Webster. I can't leave Hunt off this roster right now. Small chance it could be Tapp's spot he gets IMO. Cudjo probably starts the season as the #4 DT.

I'm thinking the same in terms of Jones vs. Ross.

I'd probably still keep Boggs and put Robinson on the PS.

I hope we manage to keep Johnson,Webster,Robinson and Diggs on our PS if that's the route we go. Good problems I guess

I'm more concerned with CB than I'd like to be. Austin will have to work his magic here.

Winn hasn't looked very good running the ball and we are rock solid at RB. I'd rather keep a guy like Diggs or Johnson in the secondary and hope the can mostly fill Winn's shoes on STs.

Kellen Moore, Fauria, and Larry Webster are the most significant cuts so far.

Isaiah Johnson and Brian Suite as practice squad eligibles. Plus, we can re-sign Moore to Practice Squad as well so... I think that's a 99% probability. Webster too if he doesn't get an opportunity elsewhere. I don't know what that probability is... 50/50?

Since they dropped Moore, I'm adding Diggs back onto my 53.

If they did actually release Winn, I'll say Boggs is added back on. But if Warford is still struggling, they might need him regardless, which means either Winn or Corey Robinson or Diggs HAS to be released in order to make room for him (based on my 53).

Aah... just found it on Winn.

I think that means Zenner is in and Robinson and Boggs are safe.

Hardest call right now is Ross vs. T.J. Jones.

Couple releases to think about:

Ashlee Palmer - add him and drop Travis Lewis? Might push Whitehead back onto ST's and 1st backup spot if Palmer is the better Sam starter...

Louis Nix - throw him on the PS and see if he can flash anything in our scheme? Not as a pass-rusher, but as a run-stopper...

Jeremy Ross is gone. I'm glad about that one, always had a boneheaded play in his locker and didn't possess any real raw/special attributes. He's annoyed me for a year or two now

I'm pretty bummed by that compensation actually. Birkett' date=' I think, reported that multiple teams were interested - so I was hoping for more. I would have done this trade in a heartbeat if I was New England.

But I trust Mayhew on offensive linemen. I'm hoping this is an endorsement of their comfort with Robinson on the left.[/quote']

I would have assumed we would have gotten more out of a future pro-bowler and one of the cornerstone members of our historically good practice squad. :)

Figured the team was ready to make that move...

The funny thing here is that getting a draft pick for him actually helps the case I was making in that discussion.

LS is just a speciality position. Most aren't OL, they are backup TEs.

If Webster gets signed, he'll be released shortly after. He's not ready.

Whitehead is an above average OLB, I like Palmer and would be happy to bring him back, but he is clearly inferior at Lb (which is why Whitehead started last year.)

Mildly shocked they kept Copeland over Cudjo.

Thought Reid was still struggling with his high ankle sprain, and Wright hasn't shown anything yet. 2 1/2 DT's for game 1 is a tough way to start methinks. Unless they can flip someone onto short-term IR and get Cudjo back onto the 53, I'm a little worried. Also, I think someone will snap him up so we might not even get that chance. It seems Corey Robinson would've been easier to get to the Practice Squad; and recall him as needed/ soon as possible. Or even Copeland, for that matter...

But ST's and some versatility won out for Copeland it looks like. I know they liked him quite a bit.

Some good news today. Winn,Ross and Moore were all guys I wanted gone.

Sad about Webster, hope we manage to sneak him on to the PS. Hope Johnson isn't this year's Couplin(who made the Eagles IIRC)

Pretty surprised Cudjo is gone. Wonder if a DT signing is coming. At the same time, Jones could probably play there a lot with Taylor and Hunt playing most of the LDE slots and Tapp backing up Ansah.

Robinson making the team is encouraging IMO. Same for TJ Jones.

Glad Copeland made it as well. Good story out of the vet combine, helps on STs and has a little upside as a backup OLB.

Also glad that the Lions could stash Wootton on IR. I mean, it sucks for him, but, I have hopes he can replace Jones next year.

I liked Winn & Cudjo so it's hard to see them let go. I guess it was too hard to squeeze them onto the 53. And Cudjo can't PS so he's lost for good.

I like Webster too, but he needs another year on the PS. I actually like Kellen Moore as well... but I like him more on the PS than as the 3rd QB, so I think this is a great move. I still think we need to invest a mid-round pick on a QB with higher upside than Moore. As our future backup...

Also hated to see Couplin go. Hoping no one snags Johnson this year. I really wanna see Carey replaced. But his time has not yet come it appears.

Can't see how we let Cudjo go. We are thin at DT, and he looked the part. We kept Hunt, right? To me, he flashed but wasn't overly reliable. Would rather have used the roster spot on Cudjo. Other than that, I mostly like the decisions although it's tougher to feel okay about cutting guys than it was when I used to wish we could cut almost everyone. I guess that mean's Mayhew's doing at least okay. Hope Reid gets back soon.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for Wooton.

Not sure what there was to really like about Winn. He's a dime a dozen type.

Hunt was pretty much effective rushing the passer in every PS game

Seems like it basically came down to Corey Robinson or Cudjo if I had to guess. A little surprised myself, Wright better step up or a trade needs to be made. Still wish we kept Mosley. Wonder if Fluellen is a possibility.

Interesting that we picked up Stanley Jean-Baptiste. I wanted the Lions to draft him last year if he fell to the 4th or 5th. He didn't, but now let's see what the Lions can do with him. He'll have time to learn on the PS. Big guy (6'3" 220), but not great speed 4.6-ish. Maybe he's better off as a free safety or strictly as a press-corner...

Aahhh... I see that we put Alex Carter on IR-Return and re-signed Jermelle Cudjo back onto the 53. I guess that was sort of expected, on both counts.

Love both moves. Always thought baptiste had raw potential and glad to have cudjo back. We don't need carter short term really like we do cudjo at Dt
