Denver is at Golden State. They have to win and we have to lose in order for there to be a coin flip.

We are pretty much locked into 8.

Last game of the year in NY, so they could be amped up for their fan appreciation night like we were against Charlotte and Cleveland was against us...maybe they beat us? Also, I assume Golden State will likely rest all of their starters since they have nothing to play for, so maybe Denver beats them? Just going for some wishful thinking here.

Greg monroe's last game as a piston. Is anyone shook up about this other than all the moose slappies at dbb?

Monroe seems like a nice guy and i think he has improved this year, but i can live without him. The worst part about it is that the pistons will get nothing for him.

I am. It sets them back quite a bit.

Monroe is good but he is replaceable. A good stretch 4 and improvement from Drummond and they'll be fine.

I'm in.

We need a 3 that can play as well, and I hope we pick up a seasoned FA for that spot. The 4 can be the Latvian kid if he's there.

I would take Monroe back... But they can replace him... Might not be as good... But could be a better fit and for less $$. We will see what happens.

I doubt it. They were awful with him anyway. He wasn't a big difference maker really and usually disappeared down the stretch of games.

They need some new blood in here. The Monroe-Drummond combo just doesn't work and now they have more cap space to work with to bring in shooters to surround Drummond and Jackson.

As has been mentioned, the worst part about the Monroe fiasco is getting no value for him unless they can work a sign and trade.

You're contradicting yourself.

If losing him doesn't set them back any then it doesn't matter if they get value back for him or not.

I hope they bring Monroe back, if not get some compensation for him via S&T. This looks like a tip-ll top draft, any extra picks will help.

upsid

Free Agency sucks this year, will have to see what happens, hopefully the Pistons can sign Jackson, lock up Drummond and somehow retain Monroe and draft a SF with upside, maybe pick up a vet SF to place hold, pickup Tolliver's option and they are good, 50 win team next year.

I think what he means is that even though me might not be worth anything to us, he obviously is an asset to another team or else they wouldn't give him the contract. So it sucks not getting anything for an asset. It would be like in the NFL if you had a prime Peyton Manning and a prime Tom Brady as your backup(or vice versa depending on your views). Now it really wouldn't hurt your team if you lost one of them, but other teams would kill to have one, so not being able to take advantage of that and get something for them would suck.

Are the Pistons better with just Drummond and Jackson or better with Drummond, Monroe, and Jackson?

So it would be a set back, which is exactly what I said and he disagreed with.

I don't think this is the way to ask the question though. There are 5 guys on the floor. And we don't really care which version of the current arrangement of Pistons is better because none of them are good enough. The question is whether it's more likely to achieve a better team down the road finding three other guys to play with Jackson and Drummond or two other guys to play with the current three.

I think it's a moot point because I think Greg is gone regardless, but I do worry they are going to be left to build around Drummond and he is going to turn out not to be the answer. They don't really have much choice but to try though.

I don't see what one statement has to do with the other.

I'm saying that they stunk with him so how much further can they be set back really. They seemed to play just fine the games he was out as well.

Whether or not his loss sets them back, it still sucks that they couldn't get more value for him or any value at all if no sign and trade occurs. He was one of their more valuable assets and they will likely lose him for nothing. Instead of fiddling around with whether or not they were keeping him, they should have identified a while ago that he wasn't going to sign here and deal him while he had value.

I just don't think he was the right fit for this team. He just never seemed comfortable here despite the solid stats and never gained the trust of his coaches in key 4th quarter situations. They will need to replace his production of course but I don't think it will be that hard to do. Solid complimentary 4's who are limited in what they can do are a dime a dozen.

Right. Losing an asset for nothing sets them back. Again, that is exactly what I said to begin with. You added all of the other pointless crap.

Pointless crap? LOL. Way to keep up your douchey reputation Del.

I don't think it sets them back that much on the court but it sucks not getting value for an asset. I don't see the correlation between the two.

You've made your love of Monroe very apparent and seem to get uppity at anyone who disagrees so I guess

Pretty much this.

Monroe has handled himself with class in Detroit during one of the most turbulent time in franchise history and I'll always respect him quite a bit for it. I'm not sure what else he has to do short of come out and say that he doesn't want to be in Detroit to make the message more clear, though.

Not getting a return asset while watching him walk out the door is painful, regardless of how he fits SVG's plan and completely regardless of how any of us feel about his game.
