Game 70: Pistons @ Celtics

Recommended Posts

I think SVG needs to move Jennings' expiring for some sort of value, and Hickson would be a quality pickup for us. I think there are a few guys out there we could snag like that that could--at minimum--be important bridge players for Detroit in 2016.

With the cap taking such a huge jump next summer, Jennings expiring contract holds almost no value.

True. I wouldn't be opposed to Cauley-Stein in the draft.

I would. Do we really need another Drummond?

The Pistons need to find a scorer in the draft. Preferrably a small forward.

If Monroe walks, there goes their one low post scoring threat and a chunk of the offense so yet another hole to fill. SVG has his work cut out for him this offseason. He'll finally realize how difficult this GM thing really is especially in a market like Detroit.

Drummond is putting up numbers that only about a half-dozen NBA bigs have ever exceeded at 21. That list has names like Amare, Shaq, and a few other elite bigs. Drummond has only scratched the surface of what he could become, so don't count him out on ever developing a post game.

According to a story published by Dan Feldman last night, we may not need Monroe's inside presence to improve our scoring.

The Pistons have scored 105.6 points points per 100 possessions since Jackson’s arrival, according to nbawowy!.

•Drummond and Jackson with Monroe: 104.1

•Drummond and Jackson without Monroe: 114.9

This is a small sample size, but it is an encouraging one for those of us who don't want wallow in the disappointment of losing a solid player and citizen like Greg Monroe.

A Cauley-Stein/Drummond pairing could eventually be our version of Favors/Gobert, for those of us who like stifling interior defense. He would likely be ready to play around 20 MIN as a backup right away, which wouldn't be enough for people who still have unrealistic expectations of rookies who declare early--but would be very useful none the less. As the season progressed hopefully he could get into the upper 20s and give us numbers somewhat close to Drummond's rookie campaign.

To be sure, it will be difficult to snag someone ready for the starting lineup in this draft outside of Okafor and Towns. None of the point guards are ready and likely none of the wings are either.

Regarding SVG, he's definitely not perfect. He should have gotten value for Smith this summer in that rumored Kings deal, and perhaps he should have worked harder to move Monroe then as well. But it was a coup getting Jackson at the deadline after Jennings suffered an injury that basically one point guard has ever come back from even close to 100%. If he snags a quality two-way forward in FA this summer then we're a playoff team. If we get lucky and add a quality big in the draft, maybe we even have home court in the first round. If Dumars can build a winner in Detroit, why can't SVG?

SVG has been a pretty bad GM so far, but Monroe is not his fault. Monroe was not accepting any trade this year, none. If a guy has veto power and wont accept a trade, you can't blame the GM for not moving him.
