3/15/15 Game 68 Wings @ Penguins 12:30PM NBC 97.1FM

Recommended Posts

That goal came after the Pens had sustained pressure in the wings zone for about a minute-and-a-half, with the Wings making sad clearing attempt after sad clearing attempt. They do this way to often, and it's probably what will be their ultimate undoing in the playoffs.

For sure. Very sloppy outlet passing and clearing attempts.

Yea far too often I see a Wing softly throw the puck behind their net rather than try to outlet it out of the defensive zone. So annoying.

It's like they're so afraid of getting an icing call that they make stupid decisions. Makes no sense.

I hate the Penguins. They are always one of the dirtiest teams in the NHL with no class. Starts with their captain and rolls downhill. Love watching the Wings beat them.

Big win today after yesterday's debacle.

Great win. Mrazek was at his best today. Nice to see Pulkkinen getting rewarded with goals. You could tell he was pressing during his first few games with the big club, forcing shots when he should have been looking to pass or create something better, but now he's playing within himself and it's paying dividends.

Hopefully that win settles us down. Like we talked about yesterday. Even with the bad week, we are not in bad shape going forward. If we ignore New York, which is on another planet right now, we have at least one game on hand over all of the other current playoff qualifiers. We are only 6 points behind Montreal. There is still a lot of hockey to be played and a lot of room to move up the standings before playoff time.

Sorry, not saying this is a permanent thing, but Mrazek needs to be the #1 goalie right now. Jimmy Howard has not been right since the groin injury and he might not be right the rest of the year. The team seems to have more of a spark when Mrazek starts too.

I think Howard will start the playoffs for the Wings but Babcock may not be afraid to have a quick hook if the Wings lose a couple, like how he replaced Hasek with Oshood in '08.

Mrazek needs to show he can be consistent before anyone hands him the No. 1 job. Remember that run where he "didn't lose a game" while Howard was hurt? How many times was he pulled early during that stretch? It's the Detroit 2nd-String Blinders where, when the starter stumbles, fans never remember the 2nd-stringer's faults, and demand that the 2nd stringer be immediately promoted to starter.

Petr Mrazek is not going out there and shutting teams down, and his averages are pretty similar to Howard's. He's more all-or-nothing than Howard, and he has no NHL post season experience. If Howard craps the bed in the first two playoff games, then give the kid a shot. But short of that, I want Howard in net.
