2015 Michigan Wolverines Football

If I needed a franchise QB, yes.

He reminds me of another QB who went #1 overall, Jamarcus Russell. He could throw the heck out of the ball, but didn't do the necessary due diligence to become a good QB. The problem with Jones is that he will either bust, or be great. Sometimes you have to take the chance on greatness. I don't think there is another QB in the NFL as gifted with the arm and size and movement that Jones has. He is a physical freak.

With a 10-cent head. I wouldn't waste a pick on him as a QB.

You don't take that risk at #1 overall. He's a much worse prospect than say, Colin Kaepernick or the like and he went 2nd round. He gets a lot of Zach Mettenberger with better running as a comparison. He was a 5th rounder

Mettenberger was coming off an injury, and was a 6th rounder. Jones has much better feet. He only lacks experience. He has very good accuracy.

I don't think he would go before the 6th round. He needs games. The #1 risk on college QB's is them leaving after 3 years....they don't have enough experience. Jones would be like leaving as a freshman....since he only had 3 starts in his career.

His talent level really doesn't matter.

and Jones has 3 games started in a non NFL system where as Mettenberger started 30 games in a pro style offense.

He used to owe a buck, so he has improved.

I am actually surprised he is staying to play school. Compete for playing time and not get paid for it or compete for the possibility of playing time and get paid for it? Given his introduction to Twitter popularity and the prospect of cashing in while his performance was considered hot, I am kind of shocked.

Not sure I understand the need for a press conference, but maybe he is trying to emulate Peyton Manning and other guys that held press conferences to announce that they were staying in school.

I wouldn't label him a head-case at this point. Not with the issues Vince Young, RGIII, Jamarcus Russell, Johnny Manziel, and Ryan Leaf. That being said....he may still them....but I haven't seen them.

I am guessing he heard he likely wasn't going before the 5th or 6th round from some friends and decided even if he doesn't play a down in 2015 for OSU....he will still get the practice time and the same opportunity to impress scouts at the combine before the 2016 draft. He could turn into Matt Cassel. But he is going to need 3 years from today.

Let's rename this thread "Ohio State Quarterbacks, the NFL Draft, and other things I'm not interested in."

We could. But for the record, wasn't it a UoM fan that started the tangent?

I don't envy Urban Meyer the decision he will have to make next season. Braxton Miller has graduated, but still has a year of eligibility left. JT Barrett may be the best of the bunch, & led the team all season. Cardale Jones did an amazing job over the last 3 weeks - against arguably the 3 toughest opponents they faced all year.

Anybody think there's any chance of convincing Braxton Miller to jump ship? :classic:

Based on this vid...I think he's going to FSU....

Twitter is ablaze with rumors that Mike Weber, 4 star RB from Cass Tech flipped back to Michigan. Not much to go off of besides twitter except Tyrone Wheatley did just visit with the star. It'd be good if this came to fruition.

Some Harbaugh contract info.

https://twitter.com/nickbaumgardner/status/558696267141099520

Jim Harbaugh contract FOIA is in, he'll get a base of $500,000 for seven years, additional compensation is $4.5 million ... even $5 million
After the third year of his contract, Harbaugh will receive a 10 percent raise. He'll get another 10 percent after year 5
Harbaugh must give Michigan 48-hour notice before he discusses other jobs, per contract.
If Harbaugh terminates the contract, he owes UM a portion of his signing bonus and the remainder of his deal, depending on how much is left
The portion owed by Harbaugh if he leaves will be equal to the number of months remaining from the day he opts out.
Within 30 days after the final game of 2015 season, school will re-evaluate Michigan's program, determine deferred comp bump for Harbaugh
With signing bonus, Harbaugh will make $7 million next season. And deferred comp could make that even more after the season ends.
Basically, if Harbaugh leaves before the end of year four, he owes Michigan a lot of cash

Crap load of recruits on campus today. Including top TE recruit Chris Clark. Committed to UCLA but let's hope there's a shot of that changing.

And again this weekend. Frankly I'm amazed that 26 days in there have been no new commits.

Zach Gentry's highlights look like he's a cross between Ben Rothelsberger and Russell Wilson.

I have no idea what stock to put into highlights of these guys playing against other high school schlubs. I just pretty much assume nothing matters with a high school qb except accuracy and arm strength.

Glad to see Gentry flipped. I don't have any idea how any of these high school kids will ultimately develop, but the more the merrier. The competition should be good.
