No, not at 66 years old. They will hire another DC.

That makes sense. I'm glad he has stayed on. I think keeping Mattison around is worth every penny!

Michigan to play Florida in the Citrus Bowl. Good matchup I think. Rather play them than a LSU with a much better offense.

Sounds like Michigan will hire Boston College's defensive coordinator, Don Brown, for the same position. Not a name I heard in the rumors. I do know BC had a really good defense under him.

He seems to be highly thought of in the comments I'm reading. I like that he's older and should be around for the next 5 years or so.

Michigan never met with Pruitt. They had a meeting scheduled but apparently he didn't want to move north because of family ties.

Honestly I'm a little surprised at the Brown hire because of his age. I thought they might look for someone younger. Not upset, just surprised.

I was surprised, too. A little relieved now though. I'd rather not replace the coordinators every year or two when they get looked at for HC jobs.

I'm fine replacing the coordinators every few years, assuming it's because they are getting HC jobs. If they are getting HC jobs it means they were doing a good job here.

Replacing coordinators every few years is fine.. Durkin was employed for what, 11 months?

It's not great for recruiting. A couple of coordinators that stick while developing their replacement from within is a better formula to me.

With Harbaugh at the helm I don't think it has any impact on recruiting. Saban runs through coordinators like Don Cherry runs through suits.

Harbaugh can't recruit everybody. The relationships built by the staff are valuable. Don't you remember, as an example, the Weber dust up when his RB coach left OSU after he signed?

Any change is more likely to hurt than help, but I don't think it'll be a huge deal in this class or with any relationships. You definitely have to be upfront with kids about things......the OSU coach leaving the day after NSD was pretty evil. Durkin leaving for a HC job after the regular season is normal.

It certainly has less impact than hiring the parents of recruits.

From what I've read Durkin was on a recruiting trip when he interviewed for the Maryland job. I don't think his departure means a whole lot to this class either though. I think he enjoyed a lot of praise for Mattison's and Hoke's (DL) developmental work. Anyway, if I had a choice, I'd take stability as opposed to one year stops.
