It's hard for me to believe this is true when it's Marcellus Wiley, and no one else, that is reporting the news. I'm hoping this is true, but I'm not buying this report quite yet.

I don't believe that is any kind of hold up. Adam Schefter is reporting that he wants to evaluate his NFL options because the NFL is so awesome.

I think Wiley was a bit aggressive with his reporting, but I don't think he would lie about what his sources told him. So it's something.

But it's obviously not an actual signed contract.

I don't think of him as another Bo, even if he takes the job. Stay 5 years, turn Michigan around, hand it back in good shape, and go back to the NFL at a young 55 or so when an ideal situation turns up. I don't know if he will win a national championship, but I would be very surprised his his Michigan tenure underwhelmed so much that his NFL reputation would be lower 5 years from now than it is now.

if he wins a title and stays for 10 years he can be the next Bo.

I suspect he'll stay for the length of his 1st contract then head back to the NFL. Hopefully groom another David Shaw to succeed him.

A lot of circular reporting going on. Paul Finebaum reading Marcellus Wiley who overstated his info and backtracked later.

And yet...still confident based on the shadows we can see from inside the cave (or however that Plato Cave allegory works)

College coaches usually don't have trouble getting out of their contracts to take a better job

The buyout will likely be large enough in the first few years to keep him put.

So what happens if Harbaugh doesn't go to Ann Arbor?

If you saw the Last Temptation of Christ you saw the scene where his disciples visit him as an elderly man on his death bed and he gets bi@$ched out by Judas.

[his father disowned him]

The word I hear is the job is Harbaugh's to take. He has till the first week of January to make his decision. Harbaugh will be given control of the football program with oversight from the AD. Harbaugh isn't required to keep any staff or assistants now in place. If Harbaugh rejects UM then plan B is an official offer at slightly less money to Mullen who is expected to bring his staff with him at significant raises. In regards to recruiting, UM is willing to lose this years recruiting to get the right coach. UM is determined to not allow UM football to sink any lower as football revenue is essential to all UM sports and academic goals.

Sounds about right to me.

I'm about 50/50 on wanting Harbaugh to come because it would probably make Michigan relevant at football again and because I'd like to troll all the cocky nfl writers on twitter who basically said michigan fans were stupid and Harbaugh turned them down weeks ago

No matter what happens, I find this hilarious:

Harbaugh is staying in the NFL, he'll never go back to college.

(michigan offers)

Harbaugh is torn, but will eventually land back in the NFL.

(michigan smoke increases)

Harbaugh is considering Michigan.

(more smoke)

It'll take years for Harbaugh to turn Michigan into a contender.

If Jim comes to Michigan, more has been done with less in a quick amount of time. I shouldn't be, but I'm shocked at how easy it is for the media to just pile crap on top of crap on top of crap. Harbaugh could come, he could have success in 3 years, maybe 2. But hey, waiting and seeing isn't something that's apparently allowed anymore, so....humbug.

I think the Michigan "insiders" sources have been Jack Harbaugh and former players that Jim might interact with. The NFL writers likely get insight from his NFL agent, David Dunn, and their agency. But, Jim also has a CFB agent b/c Dunn only represents NFL clients. I think that could be why the NFL guys like Schefter have been so far behind in this as opposed to recognizing that Harbaugh to U of M was a possibility from the very beginning.
