Worst Pro Drummer Ever gets a stay of execution in 1986

I think that list hits most of the really good ones, and most of the really bad ones.

Josh Freese is a terrific drummer who is listed as bad simply because the author thinks he's a jinx. Pretty silly. I do agree with pretty much the rest of them though.

That list is a bit dated.

I would put Steven Adler and Tommy Lee on the top 10 list, these guys wrote too. Adler/Lee were the driving force's behind the two biggest bands of the 80's, listen to GNR without Adler, Matt Sorum could not keep up and their sound changed.

I've always felt the exact same with regards to Adler and Sorum. Sorum was way better technically but he sucked the life out of those albums. Adler had way more personality and didn't sound like a drum machine.

As far as Lars goes, I have a hard time taking this seriously. It could very well be that they had a spat one night/week, someone told Ian they were going to fire Lars, and they made up the next week. Who knows. James can be a bit overdramatic at times anyhow. It doesn't necessarily mean they would have fired him if the bus accident didn't happen.

[i think Steven Adler is the worst pro drummer ever

or Meg White, but she did exactly what they needed.QUOTE]

Good choices here, I can't disagree with either of those.

As far as Ringo goes, by today's standards he sucks. But if you consider drummers from the rock and roll genre from that era....Ringo was tops. Heck, without Ringo drums themselves wouldn't have evolved. Go back and watch those Ed Sullivan clips. His drums stands are bouncing around all over the place. Thanks to Ringo and those he influenced by pounding a back-beat, drums had to be made sturdier. Not many drummers played with the Ringo grip at that time either. Now, most rock drummers do....Copeland is one of the few that doesn't.

When I was in band (9th grade), our student conductor was rather well endowed. I was able to keep time well without looking at her hands.
Your student conductor was a female I trust.....? Oh now I see "her hands". I just had this vision of a Marine......; )

Yes, Adler was more naturally gifted, more "musically" inclined, Sorum was great for a metal drummer, but Adler brought more musicality and raw talent to the set. He had a great feel. Each member of GNR sans maybe Duff were truly special talents, Izzy/Slash/Axl/Adler were top talents, too bad they broke up, mostly that is about Adler's problems too, he was the foundation of the group, the peacemaker, once he was gone it was only a matter of time really.

I thought it was Izzy who was able to keep Axl in check.

That list of best drummers is decidedly weak, & way too heavy on rock drummbers. No list of best drummers is complete without Buddy Rich. I'm surprised Carter Beauford isn't mentioned, or Jack DeJohnette. Danny Seraphine is pretty good too.

Did the rock and roll blog omit the drummers from stomp and that deaf chick who lead the opening ceremonies at the London Olympics too?

He's actually on record as saying he never practiced except when he played live. I find that hard to believe.

It was the best drummers of "rock & roll". That might be why. :)
