Michigan fans......If Les, Jim and John are off the table....who do you want?

Recommended Posts

Even if Hoke is fired today, I'm a little worried about finding the right person. I guess the only saving grace here is that there IS a good amount of talent coming back, especially if Funchess decides to stay so he can learn how to catch all the passes.

I doubt Funchess comes back next season, even though he likely played poorly enough to bump him from a 1st round pick to a 2nd / 3rd round pick. Shane Morris doesn't look like he's any better than Gardner, and if I were Funchess I wouldn't take a chance on further damaging my stock with an inexperienced QB and a new coaching staff.

Or, to put it another way, pretty much anyone I am interested in would bear a risk of turning down UM because they have other good options.

In a weird way, I want there to be a not-insignificant risk they are turned down, if that makes sense.

I agree with you guys. LSU is as big, if not a bigger program than Michigan right now. Why would he leave? He has some great players there, and is in the middle of a recruiting "hot bed" in the South. Regardless, I'm not a big Les Miles fan and would rather them go in a different direction.

Hire Schiano and move forward. Don't chase the dreamy big names.

edit - and try to keep Nussmeier on as OC potentially.

oh god. I hope not.

RT @TomLeyden: Expecting a 4:30 news conference in Ann Arbor with #Michigan interim AD Jim Hackett - official update on Brady Hoke likely.

I am guessing we will know before that. Coaches are still recruiting today.

I've spent time in Baton Rouge and live in Ann Arbor. There is no question that Baton Rouge is LSU football crazy in a way that local UM program boosters could only dream of, and LSU is a current power. So if football=life, a move north is a move backward.

On the other hand, once you get beyond football....

I like Harbaugh, Miles or Schiano, really in no particular order. I think all three would be a large improvement over what we need. Go get em.

Interesting - just read on Twitter that Miles and Pelini could have a reunion at Michigan. That would be something.

Petrino would have been nice, but we are probably a year late on that move. I think he has a $10 million buyout with Louisville.

I just wanted to do some research on Hoke's and Hoke's supporters claims that Michigan is young.......48 of the 54 players on the final depth chart have eligibility remaining. That may be misleading.....since Michigan has not been losing these players like most good programs like Ohio, Alabama, and Texas A&M.

Current Class # Players

RS SR 6

SR 5

RS JR 9

JR 10

RS SO 25

SO 14

RS FR 22

FR 22

Total - 113 players

to follow up my previous post with rudementary analysis of the Michigan roster

2010 class - RichRod signings - Gardner, Hagerup, Jake Ryan

2011 class - Scramble from RR firing - Ramon Taylor, Wile, Desmond Morgan, Beyer - Senior Eligibility expired

- eligibility remaining - Countess, Hayes, Bellamy, Jack Miller, Glasgow - RS Juniors

We could lose the 2012 guys, which are Hoke's first "real class".

So we have 11 guys leaving. 44 more guys who have put 3 years in and could leave. And then 58 guys who have 1-2 years in.

Opinion:

I wouldn't necessarily call Michigan a young roster. But I would conclude that Hoke inherited a faulty roster to begin with. Of course he wasn't able to get anyone in 2011 since he only had 3 weeks to put together a class.

That is a huge problem we will have this year as well. We were well on our way to having an all-time great (for UM) 2015 class before the decommitments started in the summer of 2013. 7 guys in the top 100.....and more would have come if we had just won 9 games last year and this....which really wasn't that difficult with the schedule.

But alas....Hoke just couldn't coach. And that sealed his fate. Just like RichRod's fate was sealed by the minor NCAA infractions. Maybe there is something to Hoke paralleling Tommy Amaker as a coach who does things the right way....and keeps the program out of trouble. But not good enough to keep alumni happy. We need that and a coach who can win.

Hoke's ability to recruit was offset by his inability to develop talent. Having top 10 recruits only means something if the coaching staff can do something with that talent.

It's not basketball, there aren't that many players leaving other programs. A better comparison would be to look at upperclassmen starters side by side.

No more Michigan man BS

Are you getting that from Hackett? He had the history wrong...it predates Bo. It wasn't then about ties to the program...it was about exactly what Hackett said he's looking for (character and winning without shortcuts or shenanigans).

Now if he hires Miles I'll say that the Michigan Man tradition is dead.

If we hire Greg Schiano I might just give up on the program, what a joke that would be

Schiano would (ideally) be a last resort / everyone else has turned UM down hire. UM probably hasn't fallen far enough to have to fall back on a failed and unemployed NFL coach who's only mild college success was at Rutgers.
