Surprise player for 2014?

Recommended Posts

So who's your surprise player for 2014? They guy that no one really expected that much from, but who ends up being a solid contributor... just on the edge of being a star player. I think last year Waddle was that guy, and Foruia to a lesser extent.

Whitehand sure threw his hat into the right Friday night, but it was only one preseason game, so I don't how much faith we can put in just one showing. I guess I'd lean toward Broyles... though that's sorta a cop out. We might not be expecting much from Broyles now, but we were a few years ago, so he's not really an unknown character.

Looking more and more like the surprise player is Van Noy... As in, surprise, your second round pick may be out for the season.

Whitehead looks legit. Great size for the position.

Mike Laga was going to be legit too.

I hope he's good, but not going to go crazy over a pre-season game against a Chad Henne-lead team.

I have read a lot of articles this offseason about Theo Riddick and how he is surprising a lot coaches, players, etc. in camp. He is my pick for surprising player.

I've already been surprised with Fauria in that it seems like he's put a lot of work into his blocking. I'd imagine the Ebron drafting lit a fire under him and he's been working on his weak points. I think he has a chance to do a lot more for the Lions than Red Zone TD's (not that I'm complaining about those).

OLB/DE George Johnson has been getting rave reviews in the preseason. I'll admit that I am starting to get on the bandwagon for this guy and am thinking he could be our surprise player this year.

I agree. I don't know to what level, but he has played well and you have to love his motor

If Darius Slay is not the surprise player, this will be a long season.

That's why I think Nick Fairley will end up getting cut or traded....to make room for another DB.

Mayhew wouldn't let Cauldwell cut one of his top draft picks before the season even started.

Nate Freese.

That would be nice. He was out kicked during camp and the pre-season, but since he was the draft pick he got the job.

No chance you cut Fairley at this point. But man, talk about eating your way out of millions of dollars. You would think that with all the resources he has he could get it under control.

Disagree. In camp, yes, not in preseason

And to your point, Freese made all of his kicks last night, which is great. With how bad Akers was last year it will be nice to have a rookie with a strong leg. Let's hope he carries his success over to the regular season.
