2014 Lions Training Camp and Preseason Games

Recommended Posts

I sure hope preseason isnt indicative of the season because all I can see against the Jags is same old Lions. Frustrating as hell.

Taylor nearly jumps, totally gives his blitz away and still runs through the line untouched for the 2nd sack for the Lions defense this drive. Wow.

This has been a tough game to watch. No one outside of Bush has looked good, in my opinion.

I'm not worried too much about Leshoure since I don't think he will be on the roster or getting many opportunities during the regular season, but this has been a bad game thus far, all around.

Leshoure will get cut. He cant play special teams and he isnt any good at running back.

Tahir says hello. Bortles is awesome. Can't figure why they aren't starting him. Maybe they don't want to win.

He's gotta be fifth on the depth chart behind Bush, Bell, Reddick and George Winn. He could be fourth, but He's not making the team and I don't expect him to hold any trade value.

The linebackers look solid as a group. None of them may be superstars, but they are all solid.

I do expect someone else's released defensive back to end up with the Lions.

I completely forgot the game was on & didn't tune in until the 2nd half. The number of penalties being called was ridiculous. As popular as the NFL has become, it may just implode on itself if this is indicative of the way the sport is moving. It's virtually unwatchable.

You are correct, one player on our defense looked very good. However, Jacksonville was still able to march up and down the field. I was just hoping for a little more in the dress rehearsal game, Stafford and the offense looked great early on against Oakland...I wanted them to drop 24 in the first half against Jacksonville. Our defense was again just very underwhelming, I know they weren't blitzing all that much to see how the DL played while rushing just four (not well) but it was just very unimpressive and sloppy, in my opinion.

But they weren't really ticky-tack penalties, I would say nearly every single call was warranted. Do want to get called for penalties? Don't commit them. Seemed like there was a lot of sloppy technique.

Whitehead looked impressive, I agree there. That's good since Van Noy may need hernia surgery.

I've seen too many good preseasons from bad teams to panic about one preseason game. I thought the offense looked really good in game 2 and I think Stafford looks fine. The Jaguars cared a lot more about that game than us IMO. I didn't like the penalties though.

Fairley and Slay are going to be our X factors this year IMO. If they play well, there's little stopping us. If not, we will have some holes

Football Outsiders pre season almanac has the Lions in last place in the NFC North.

More than K2F?

Also, Lions in last place.. I dont have a reason to doubt them right now. I was at a Casino in Vegas that has the o/u for Lions wins at 6.5 right now.

I would be much more surprised by the Lions winning the division than the Lions finishing in last place.

Not sure that post was all that optimistic, but I'm certainly not claiming to be a pessimist on the subject either.

I think that's pretty optimistic for a team that has had one winning record in the last decade and is predicted by vegas and most prognosticators to be below .500 again.

Looking at the schedule, as of now, I can see them winning anywhere from 6-8 games. It's actually a fairly difficult schedule, IMO.

Defense looked great versus the Jags. Offense was a little bit out of rhythm, but that is too be expected. It was Calvins first game and Stafford was trying to feed him just to get him involved. Not much to see here.

Our defense gets to the ball pretty quick. I won't worry too much about the penalties, refs are calling them pretty close here in the pre-season. Either way, I think we are ready to go. 11-5.
