June 25, 1998 Chicago Cubs at Detroit Tigers Play by Play and Box Score - Baseball-Reference.com

I know quite a few people who were at this game. I was too. It was a memorable game.

Kerry Wood pitched for the Cubs. He was an attraction due to his 20K game earlier that year. Sammy Sosa was in the middle of his thing and he broke Rudy York's HR record in a month at this game. Matt Anderson made his ML debut.... as if on cue he hit the backstop on his first warmup pitch. Tony Clark hit a 3 run shot ove the CF wall in the 8th. It was also like 100 degrees.

I still have the stub from this game. It is only one of very few that I saved. Opening Day 1999 and last game at Tiger Stadium are two others.

And yes, it was hot as blazes. The atmosphere was fantastic!

I blame global warming.

Oh look, Todd Jones brought the tying run to the plate in the 9th before recovering to complete the save.

I was at this game to. 3B side upper deck. If I remember correctly, it was a pretty packed house.

Yes it was. Very crowded. Rare back then. Inter league play was still fresh and it was the Cubs and Sosa.

That was a game which made you feel that they were on the verge of being a good team again. The future looked very bright.

How wrong we were.

I was rooting for a Cubs/Red Sox World Series that year. Both teams disappointed in game seven of their LCS. That was before I realized how douchey Red Sox fans are.

I took a date. 10th row, upper deck, perfectly aligned with the 3rd base line (as in you could tell fair/foul on balls down the 3rd base line as well as any fan could). Those seats were right on top of the action. They were my friend's season tickets, so I'd guess I saw 30 or 40 games from those seats over a period of 3 years. Maybe my favorite seat at a sporting event.

Relationship went nowhere and we were out of touch only to have her come to work at my company 10 years ago. She still works here and we are good friends. We sometimes go to Tigers games along with some other co-workers.

You were sitting close to me. We were father back and more towards left field. I went with my parents and my brother and sister. My sister wasn't thrilled to be there and I threw popcorn in her hair all game.

Does she know you are going to be 'free' soon?

We were sitting about even with the 3B bag, in the row behind the posts which meant they weren't box seats but as close as you could get. Those belonged to CBS Records I believe. Saw quite a few games from those.

I remember watching that game from a bar around the corner from me. I was really jazzed about Matt Anderson, and yes, I do remember the buzz around this team as being one of the future, what with Anderson and Seth Greisinger and Mike Drumright and Shane Loux and Cade Gaspar and Robert Fick and ...

Yikes, what were we on?

I was there with my ex-girlfriend, who got tickets through her dad. We we're in the upper deck along the 1st base line.

Her dad also got us tickets to the first game at Comerica Park. Talk about different conditions.

My sister and I were in the lower deck along the 1B line. I remember how nuts the place went for Sosa's HR (lotsa Cub fans in attendance) and then Clark's.

Yes, it was extremely hot that night. I also remember an ice cream vendor joking/flirting with Sis throughout the game.

I believe they had the Stanley Cup there for that game and if you got there early, you could get your picture taken with it........Maybe it was that game. Did Kris Draper throw out the first pitch?

My memory of the game was seeing highlights on ESPN. I can clearly recall being proud to see the stands that full.

I was married less than a month... just a few weeks into my first job in my industry. Had to wear a shirt and tie and went straight to the game in that. I forgot to take my tie off.
