I'm assuming a low ST turn out for this, thus the invitation. Seems like a great deal if the bus is included. I'm sure we will pass on the trip as that is one long ride and a game.

Even with the long ride we're going if they are still having the road trip. To me it's probably next best park experience to Clearwater in the FSL.

The Wednesday reader poll question in the Lakeland Ledger is

[h=3]Is Lakeland's agreement with the Tigers a good deal?[/h]

Yes/No

Okay, what or which agreement? We know a special position was created for our past Parks and Rec Director to pursue a future with the Detroit Tigers. So did an agreement come to fruition on Tuesday? Does this include the renovation and how much will it cost the city and the citizens? If signed, I trust it will extend the partnership another 10 years........maybe just a hope.

LAKELAND --

The city of Lakeland and Detroit Tigers have agreed in principle on a new 20-year spring training contract.

City officials want to make sure the deal keeps the Tigers in Lakeland for spring training because the team has an estimated annual impact of $45 million.

The Tigers have held their spring training in Lakeland for 78 years, and their curent contract with the city expires Dec. 31, 2016. The agreement calls for $37 million in upgrades for the Tigertown complex that includes Joker Marchant Stadium and would run through 2037.

Funding for the upgrades would come from a combination of state tourism funds, Polk County tourism funds, the city of Lakeland and the team itself.

The parties have a letter of agreement, but there is no formal contract yet. City commissioners reached by Bay News 9 didn't want to talk about the agreement until at least Friday, when they may conduct an event for the media. The deal will be taken up at a commission meeting next Monday.

If commissioners give their approval, contract negotiations would proceed.

For the fans who have missed buying $7.00 beer at JMS, you get an off season chance to reminisce. Nov. 8th, the stadium will be open for a craft beer festival on the outfield. For a paltry $25 per person/$30 day of event, you can again stand around with mini cups of something you will probably never purchase. You may have guessed by now, I am not a big fan of craft beer. I'm sure there are some great ones out there, but I have my favs and they will do just fine. Anyway, if you wish to spend the evening at Tigertown, here are more details........http://www.milb.com/documents/1/7/2/97083172/Craft_Beer_Fest_Flyer_vxfty7fv.pdf

and I guess it is officially acknowledged by the LFT.... but not a surprise...

From LFT MiLB website:

"Next year the Flying Tigers will be playing all of their home games at Henley Field. Henley Field is a 1,000-seat lighted ballpark located just a few blocks north of downtown Lakeland. The Detroit Tigers originally trained at Henley Field from 1934 until 1966, when the club made the move to Joker Marchant Stadium. This will not be the first time the Flying Tigers have played at Henley Field. In 2002, Lakeland played their entire Florida State League season here as Joker Marchant Stadium underwent a renovation."

Same field with the GCL Tigers, or will they still play at Tiger Town minor league complex?

Thanks,

Thanks Hueytaxi. I know where Henley Field is (right next to LHS football stadium). Unsure of where the GCL Tigers will be next summer. Maybe have to wait until later on next year, or will they be playing at Henley field also?

GCL should still be on the back fields, atleast that's the word around Tigertown.
