Cabrera extended to 2022?

Recommended Posts

Any chance this contract is heavily front loaded? I sure hope so cause those last 4 years or so are gonna be devastating

I don't see any reason to hope the contract is front-loaded. If it's backloaded, the team benefits from giving out a contract with a lower NPV. It also lets them, to the extent that they want, to pay for more surrounding talent during the "peak years" of the extension.

I'm not a fan of contracts that will potentially span three presidencies. But if we are giving one out, I definately don't want it front-loaded.

The right move. In 6 years 30 million will be likw 15 today... what we're paying Hunter and he will be better than Hunter.

Yep. Just out. 290 million this upcoming year and then 2 million spread out over 9 years.

$15 million to $30 million over six seasons implies a 12.5% inflation rate per annum. How much QE would the Fed need to get that kind of inflation into the system? hmmmmm.

Don't feel pressure to buy a lot of pizza this year or anything.

In 99 Kevin Brown was the highest paid player at 15 million per. That was 15 years ago so it will be close by the end of this contract.

could I go lose a bunch of money at Motor City casino instead? cause that's what I usually do when I'm home anyways.

It's too many years, but Cabrera is too important let get away. We can worry about the length of the deal later.

In some ways I wonder if this was done now just to jab at Boras. I mean, not that the Tigers weren't going to offer Miggy this contract, but right after the Scherzer deal fell through..... makes one wonder.

Over 15 years implied 4.8% inflation per annum.

To pay $290 million this year, we are going to need you to do both.

Way too long and too much money for his on-field value. His off-field value will probably make it worth it for Illitch or whoever the owners are at that time. No sense worrying about what he'll be like 8 to 10 years from now anyway.

I'd guess he'll have a near zero chance of hitting the vesting options. They'll probably be based on PA in the last year of his guaranteed contract and he'll be broken down by that point.

After 4 world championships and 11 straight MVPs, Cabrera will retire early, donating most of his earnings back to the team.

No, he's going to use his earnings to search for a cheaper hepititus C cure.
