Tyler Collins - Detroit Tigers Left Fielder

Recommended Posts

At least LF has a bit of potential with Davis's stolen bases and collins's power potential. I would rather have dirks, but whatever.

.

From what I read, he'd be better off if he stayed away from his power potential.

Wow! Fangraphs had this information completely wrong:

Tyler Collins

Birthdate: 6/6/1990 Bats/Throws: R/R

Anyhow, given that he's LH his stats to-date in the Minors are similar to Dirks at this age, but Collins has more power and Dirks got on base better.

I'm liking this kid a lot more as a LH.

I guess I get spoiled down here seeing ST games getting to see these guys a few times during the spring, I guess I just thought you made a typo? :)

Collins, physically, is Andy Dirks if you put about 15 lbs on him--the dude is thick.

I liked this guy last year in ST, getting to see him for about 12-14 AB. What I saw who was a decent production hitter who could fit into the lineup about 7th, but there were a lot of ST warriors over the years I guess.

Hopefully he is the next Tui.

shorter swing, similar build, Collins isn't a complete liability with a glove on and can run just enough.

Don Kelly has had a nice spring. If his hamstring is okay, I don't see why Collins would make the team.

They are allowed 25 guys.

I would hope that as he gains experience that the power and contact/patience can coexist.

But yeah, I'd take his 2012 line over his 2013 line if given the choice, for sure.

I dont think so. I think they are going with Davis mostly full time in leftfield. Asmus likes the speed.
I don't think that even Jim Leyland would have been stupid enough to use Rajai Davis everyday.

He might be able to do both, but I think the problem was he was swinging for the fences last year and it messed him up. At least that's what I read in a couple places, mostly recent the BA Handbook.

The point was that they could have kept Lombardozzi and had a shortstop platoon, if Kelly was the LF partner with Davis.

I'm not totally convinced he's the guy. Other players will probably be cut in the next few days.....

If he did make the team out of the gate it sends a good message to younger players that if they work hard enough in the spring, they might make the team.

It's either him or they carry three shortstops which doesn't make a lot of sense.

Oh, that's the point? What does that have to do with today's roster?

Yes, if they still had lombardozzi Collins might not make the team. They don't so he will.

Yeah, I watched one ST game about three weeks ago and have only listened here and there, so I don't recall if I've seen Colllins or not. I like what I'm seeing now that I know he's a LH....seems like Dirks with some pop....not sure about his defense.

I'll take a 23 year old LH OF with some pop over anybody else we're targeting for the bench. I realize that he had a tough go against RHP in AA last year but he smoked LHP, which even in a small # of at bats impresses me for a youngster.

Yeah, I'm actually excited about this. I like Dirks better but this kid can hit the ball.

Danny Worth to minor league camp. Ausmus says positional roster not necessarily set but barring last-minute deal, Tyler Collins looks to be on the team. Both per Jason Beck's twitter.

I'm pretty hyped to see another guy who didn't actually hit well in the minors randomly get pushed to MLB because he has some tools. #Boesch

Not to be that guy but Boesch had .828 OPS in AA in '09, and had a 1.025 OPS (only 66 PA) in AAA in '10 before being called up. It may be a little unfair to say he didn't hit well.

Collins did hit .289/.354/.599 (.953) vs lefties last year, so he may not completely embarrass himself. I guess we'll find out.

IDK, 828 is a nice number but does it really project for a MiLB corner OF? Raburn hit 950 in AA a year younger, and he's a 750 player in the majors. Cameron Maybin was 870 at 21 in AA and has been a sub 700 major leaguer. In general hitting 'well' in the minors is probably too low a bar unless a guy is playing young at level and/or showing high level discipline like Castellanos did (and we don't know for sure about him yet)

Still the Tigers have to play somebody out there so all that matter is what the alternatives are, and they are not great.

If I were Danny Worth, I probably would ask for either a trade or to be released.

They obviously have no plans for him on the MLB team.

EDIT: wrong thread but so what. blah blah blah

He's not on the 40 man roster. He went through the Rule V draft undrafted. He has no leverage. He's better off staying here.

He was designated for assignment and no one claimed him. Not sure that is wise.

I hope you meant vs righties? That is his platoon.
