I also think Stauskas is a bit of a reach at 8 even though his stock is on the rise. I would still take Harris, Ennis, and Vonleh before him...there are probably some foreign players better in that range as well; I just don't know about them.

Really, really hoping Exum falls. But he won't.

Really hoping Smart falls. But it's unlikely.

I will be happy with Gary Harris (what can I say I'm a homer), Aaron Gordon, or Noah Vonleh too. All should be available at 8.

Under NO circumstances do I want Doug McDermott.

I want Doug McDermott badly........ In the 2nd rd. This draft is so awesome, McDermott just screams late first/2nd rd, and here we have experts mocking him 8th. Best draft ever, the hype is real.

Exum,Smart and Lavine all intrigue me as PG options. I'm a big Mcdermott guy, but 8 is probably too high for him or Stauskas. This draft is stacking up nicely.

I've got my eye on Smart and Exum as well simply because I feel we need a PG and Jennings ain't it. Outside of that, I'm not sure. I see a lot of talk about the PF's in this draft and I'm not sure that's what I want right now, especially with SVG talking so highly about Monroe.

We would have to trade up for Exum. I don't see the Lakers passing on him unless one of the higher rated players drop.

I think Smart taking a bit of a step back last season might be a blessing in disguise for us. I've always liked him despite some of the on court antics last season. NBA size, tons of competitveness and versatile. I still think that there's no way he drops to 8 though.

Harris is a bit of a tweener. Too small to play SG and doesn't have PG skills.

Stauskas is intriguing because he really expanded his game last season beyond just being an athletic, lethal shooter. I worry that he might be a little slow though and defensively, he's a bit of a trainwreck but i can see SVG having a ton of interest in him based on shooting alone.

There's been a lot of talk about the Lakers inability to wait on draft picks to mature due to the Kobe situation. Maybe the Lakers would be willing to swap or trade their pick outright to get players around Kobe. Could be a Josh Smith landing spot in exchange for us taking the Nash contract and moving up.

Yah, Exum would be only in a situation where we move up via the lottery IMO. I want Wiggins or Exum in that situation.

I just read Chad Ford's first article on ESPN.com about the NBA combine. Stuaskas made 47 of 50 3 pointers during the drills, that is absolutely absurd by any standard.

I'm obsessed with Payne. I think he's going to move into the late lottery.

Stauskas is killing it at the combine. Taller than expected (6-6.5) had a better Max vert than Exum (35.5) and was 2nd in the lane agility. So far actually, there are still more guys to do it.

The ESPN guys are talking about the Jazz replacing Burke because they think he is a back up.

Yah, that 8 spot might not be a stretch any more. He's looking similar to Mike Miller coming out, who was a top 4-6 lock coming out basically. I'd take that career, minus the major injuries, for an 8th overal pick.

I laughed

If the hype doesn't grow enough to push Stauskas above 8, I really think he's likely to be the guy the Pistons target. There's so much about the pick that makes sense for what SVG wants to add to this team. Then you add the hometown love he'd get by drafting a Michigan kid as his first real move after people are still bitter about Joe passing on Burke...if he hadn't won certain fans over to his side by then, he would right there.

Very good points. A shooter and some local love are both things this team needs badly. I think Stauskas and Pope would be a nice little wing duo.

I think Gary Harris is dropping like a brick (or rather I don't think he was ever thought of as a top 10 pick), he is wussing out on the atletic testing because of a "minor groin pull". I think he needed to validate his size at this combine, to actually have him at 6-2.5 in socks and if you add the norm 1.25 inches for shoes he is 6-3.75. He needed to have a healthy 6-5.

I would not touch him in the lottery. Payne, Stauskas and James Young could go ahead of him at the end of the day. It's a shame, before the season I was thinking Harris was going to bust out and show some combo guard skills to go along with his traditional SG skills. More like a better defending Brad Beal. Never happened, his elite athleticism touted out of HS never really shown itself.

Really glad we have someone in place before the draft. Kudos to Gore for getting it done.

I wonder if SVG was just working with what he had, or if the consensus that he likes 3 point shooters is actually true. If so, guys like Stauskas or McDermott likely move up the draft board. I'm still really hoping Smart falls and we can address the PG issue (with my usual disclaimer that I don't know much about college ball), even if it means moving Jennings to SG or 6th man (or out the door, preferably).

You really want Smart? I mean I guess at #8 he would be ok, but he's pretty much a Stuckey clone combo-guard.

Two things that the combine tells me that I want to know:

Height/wingspan and vertical. But I can get that in a recap the next day

I think agility scores really tell you something about their athleticism as well.

Payne checked on the measurable, and I do think the measurements actually do matter. 7-4 wingspan and was a legit 6-10. Add in his obvious explosive leaping ability with a great outside game and you have a lotto pick IMO.

Age hurts him, but Payne is a special case which explains why he didn't develop as quickly as most elite talents. He has a learning disability, Izzo doesn't do his underclassmen any favors and had some conditioning issues.

I think he has more capability to develop PG skills and he's a tenacious defender.

He also played most of this season with mono!

He's a C now, at the very least part of the time, and that will help his value quite a bit too.

8 is too high for Stauskas. He's too limited.

I do not think you are going to get a player at #8 in this draft, who doesn't have limitations or flaws. If History is an indicator, Stauskas could fit well with Van Gundy.

Just watched Stauskas' 2 minute interview with Katz and he didn't blink once. Which means he is either on the Adderall or is a ****ing robot. If he is a robot that would explain why he can shoot 47/50 in a drill.

I've stated my disclaimer on here numerous times that I literally watch no college ball, so I'm not to be trusted when it comes to evaluating draft prospects. However, what I've read about him online intrigues me for sure.

And none of these things sound like Stuckey to me:

"Smart doubles as an excellent passer and playmaker. He has great court vision and is willing to make the unselfish play to set up his teammates"

"Very sound perimeter defender who has the length (6'8" wingspan), the strength, and the lateral quickness to keep his man in front of him. Plays hard and harasses ball handlers into making bad decisions"

"Shows flashes of greatness in the pick-and-roll as both a scorer and a passer"

"Makes winning plays. His decision-making is excellent and he is great at balancing setting up teammates and making a scoring play himself"

We truly need a PG on this team. I don't believe that Jennings is the answer and I want him out of the picture (or used as a 6th man) asap. Of course, Smart isn't a great shooter, so that may be a turn off for SVG anyway.

I doubt Exum drops, but what about Ennis? Is anybody high on him?
