Most of my recent free time has been spent helping a friend develop and promote his new pitching aid ( trainwiththeking.com ). There is nothing on the market that forces the pitcher to 'drive' off the mound and get immediate feedback until now. We unveiled the product this past weekend in Dallas at the American Baseball Coaches Association ( abca.org ) convention to a few thousand coaches from all over the world. It was very well received, hopefully the orders will start coming in as all the coaches get back home.

Of all the people that went past our booth, we only saw three former major leaguers, all Tigers - Damion Easley, Kimara Bartee and Curtis Pride. They spent a lot of time at our booth as they were there looking for the latest training devices for their training facility they operator together in Arizona.

Trey Beamon arrived in the mail today. I mailed this card out at least three years ago!

It's been at least a couple months since I had a Tiger success. So I made a small purchase on ebay and picked up a couple certified autograph cards;

Scott Sanders

Greg Gohr

Using SCN as a guide, I need 110 living former Tiger's autographs. Hopefully, I can get that number down to double digits this year! I saw that someone had a TTM success from Sid Monge in 7 days. Might have to send out a request to him this weekend.

TigerFest 2014: It's gotten worse?

With the cut down on players (albeit mostly minor leaguers) from 40 to 25, and no Cabrera/Verlander/Scherzer/Kinsler for fans to see, I was hoping that the crowds may be a little smaller this year. That is before I factor in the weather and the 10 or so vehicle accidents I saw on the way into Detroit. Anyways, with one less early entry line this year, me and my partner did the divide and conquer to get all the 10am signers... but I was disappointed who they had for those sessions as I already all of them from previous quests. I was also worried that the deletion of an entire line this year would further congest the lines: AND BOY WAS I RIGHT. Once I discovered "Zack Attack's winning recipe", I stuck it out until 3pm and called it a day. In order from earliest to latest (or pretty darn close to it):

Joe Nathan/Brad Ausmus EE A

Lance Parrish EE B (the help of the day)

Austin Jackson E

Rick Porcello/Mickey Stanley E

Jose Iglesias F

Brad Ausmus/Wally Joyner E (SUPER SECRET way I got these guys today  )

I'd say I did OK this year for being solo on this one (my partner bowed out after the EE signings after seeing the lines), but I ended up with mostly guys I already had were unprepared for. Yes, I'm referring to Lance Parrish AND Mickey Stanley who were today's surprise signers. Luckily I had a new ROMLB for Parrish to sign, but my ice cream helmet ended up in the other bag and I had to improvise with Stanley (I just took a program, had him sign at the bottom in a decent spot, and I will make it into some kind of custom card later). I have some extra signed cards from this year, and even more from other years, that are available if anybody would be interested in a trade. Really looking for cards of Alburquerque, Davis, Hunter, Martinez, and Sanchez as I missed out on all of them today.

From Tigerfest today:

Darnell Coles (2 baseball's, sweetspot)

Mike Henneman (2 baseball's, sweetspot)

Victor Martinez (1 Mother's Day official ball on sweet spot and a card)

Rick Porcello (1 ball, sweet spot and a card)

Justin Miller (1 ball and 1 schedule print thing)

Andy Dirks (1 game used baseball, sweet spot and a card)

And last but not least Rod Allen (1 baseball, sweet spot and a old card)

A couple of bad breaks. For one we got there an hour late due to weather related traffic issues then one line we were in ended up only having Coles and Henneman at the end. The line we went thru repeatedly you had to pick an A or B line, well one time we went with A and got Dirks while Sanchez ended up being the person in B. Then we went with A again and got Porcello when Jackson was in B. Ugh lol

After a rough couple hours waiting in line at the beer hall to just miss out on Castellanos and end up with Kelly instead things went better the next couple hours. In the end I ended up with:

Don Kelly - pic

Bruce Rondon - baseball sweet spot

Al Alburquerque - card

Jose Iglesias - baseball sweet spot

Brad Ausmus - card

Wally Joyner - pic

On the way out I picked up a $20 auto photo grab bag from the Tigers Foundation tent and got a signed Prince Fielder 8x10. Not too bad of a day, but would have been better off not going to the beer hall line.

Did pretty good this year. Also won a social media clubhouse pass. Was not very happy with the surprise guests. Here's what I got:

Lance Parrish - Ball

Gene Lamont - Photo

Steve Lombardozzi - Ball and Photo

Rick Porcello - 2 Photos

Mickey Stanley - Photo

Alex Avila - 2 Cards

Luke Putkonen - Card

Al Alburquerque - Card

Austin Jackson - Ball and 3 Cards

Omar Visquel - 2 Cards

Drew Smyly - Ball

Torri Hunter - Ball

Bruce Rondon - Card

I also got 2 GU Hernan Perez bats and 1 GU Don Kelly bat done on a Caravan stop. Overall it wasn't a bad Winter Caravan for me considering what players were available. Still think they need to be charging on a per player basis to weed people out. Donate all the money to the Detroit Tigers Foundation. It's a no brainer in my opinion.

We have been saying this for years. The organization simply doesn't care. Look at the news coverage. Do you ever see a guy interviewed who is freezing his butt off and just waited in line an hour to get the auto of a new coach and an untested prospect?Positive press equals positive cash flow. It's just a big commercial, and we fans are the props.

It sounds like the weather was pretty misearble for you guys, but you got some great autos! I'd especially like to see a scan of the photo with Hunter.

The Tigers will be down here in a few weeks, spring training is just around the corner. I hope I do as well as you guys just did.

Did OK at Tigerfest, but I was disappointed the "big three," Miggy, JV, and Max were not there. But I did get these 20 autos:

ALEX AVILA - Humorous photo I copied from SI for Kids. He got quite a chuckle out of it. Now need Dirks on it.

JOSE IGLESIAS - Tiger card and SI article - he was happy when I gave him a copy of the latter

KYLE LOBSTEIN - 3 of his cards and a Tiger logo card

JOE NATHAN - His card and a Tiger logo card

RICK PORCELLO - His memorabilia card (with a swatch of his uniform)

EVAN REED - 2012 Yearbook, a custom card, and 2 Tiger logo cards

DREW SMYLY - His card. He also thanked me for giving him photos and tickets of his 1st win at Yankee Stadium last year

MICK BILLMEYER - Tiger logo card

MICKEY STANLEY - Vintage toned baseball - why don't the Tigers say in advance what other Tigers will appear?

OMAR VIZQUEL - His card

And my favorite:

BRAD AUSMUS SIGNED MY "LAST PITCH AT MICHIGAN AND TRUMBULL" AND MY "FIRST PITCH AT COMERICA PARK" PHOTOS, WHERE HE WAS THE CATCHER IN BOTH GAMES. I WILL TRY TO HAVE MARK POST THESE FOR ME.

After several months, a nice return:

Hey Dave...I really like the custom cards you've posted here. Looks like you've made quite a few cards for the 60s and 70s...have you made any 80s or 90s cards? If not, any plans to do so? Also, when you print them off for autographs, are they on cardstock or just paper? Do they have backs, or are the backs blank?

Thank you, they are a labor of love. None for the 90's nor do I plan any, a few from the 80's (mostly 1984 and before), 62lb cardstock, blank backs.
