Devin Gardner seems like a good dude. It's too bad that he's just a really terrible football player. I've never seen a player get progressively worse like this.

If MDs QB didn't throw almost as badly this would be a rout.

Hoke needs to be gone. I don't know much, but this is so clearly a coaching issue. He may be a good coach at the end of all things, but he has not done well here.

It's a recruting issue - he didn't recruit anyone to play QB. I mean it seems just silly to have to say it, but top Rival's recruiting classes aren't worth much if the O doesn't have someone to take the snap. His bet to live and die with Devin and Morris has turned out to be a loser. As much as any other single thing Hoke has or hasn't done, it's what will have cost him his job.

I can just about guarantee that in his next job he will recruit QBs four deep.

That's the final nail in Hoke's coffin. I expect him to be canned within a week of the OSU blowout.

I dont know if this administration can be counted on to do the right thing. Its been a complete fiasco at AD since Bo left. Its been a complete fiasco at football since lloyd slowed down amd got sick.

why do we suddenly expect an "interim ad" from steelcase to suddenly get it right?

I think its 70-30 that hoke gets fired when every other program on the planet would fire him before the osu game. If michigan does that and gets aggressive with mullen or harbaugh, maybe things are finally different.

but i have my doubts.

I can't imagine a stupider penalty than roughing the kicker on a 29 yard FG attempt, especially when that kicker hasn't missed all season.

Buddha, Hoke is gone. They are showing class by letting him finish out the season, but a week from Tuesday or Wednesday he will be gone. Hackett will meet with Hoke at length on the post-OSU Monday, He'll tell Brady on Tuesday and give Brady the chance to break it to the team.

Then there's the Bo problem. He casts an awfully big shadow, but Michigan needs to step out of that shadow and move on and stop playing the "What Would Bo Do" game with every new hire. Michigan needs to stop talking about the Bo era and focus on the next one. It's not the 70s anymore. I thought the Rich Rod hiring was a great hire. I thought it was the right forward thinking, but the guy changes a few things and people went batshit and that is the cause of all of this now. Now, Rich didn't help his own cause by stubbornly sticking with a dodgy defensive scheme that didn't work, but the way people reacted over such stupid things as moving the taping of the Channel 7 program from day after to day before the game, it was so stupid. But because of the reaction of one really, really good coach wanting to put his own stamp on things, that were *gasp* different from Bo's caused the university to hire one of Bo's former players to be the AD and someone from the Bo coaching tree to be the Head Coach. Bo's dead. Get over it.

Hire the best AD and best Head Coach available. I don't give a crap whether they have any previous Michigan connection or not. Hell, they might be better of without that connection. Arrogance is justified when you can back it up, but it sure looks stupid when you have nothing recent to hang it on.

I was away from town for a few years, but I think the 108th ranked defense (and falling) had a lot more to do with RR being fired than any of the off field stuff, the former just acted to magnify the latter. His team looked too much like it was getting worse instead of better - same thing that is getting Hoke fired. IDK why they have had so much trouble hiring a good AD though, that is a good question.

This is deeper than Hoke. Sure, you gotta fire him and I'm fine with that. He hasn't shown me he's anything special. That won't solve the problem unless you hire a truly elite HC though and get things right from the top down. Hire a smart AD and update the facilities. Then stick with whoever you hire for the long run.

Pretty much. There has been one recurring issue through our struggles and its the lack of a QB who can make plays from the pocket. I'm not talking the next Tom Brady, but the next John Navarre would be a god send at this point. There's no excuse to lose to Maryland when you rush for 200+ at 6.5 ypc

Hoke teams find ways to lose football games. For a while tonight, brady had the headset on. It didn't matter. Very sloppy in so many areas of the game. It's like the staff doesn't have a clue- and I honestly don't think they do.

I think it's even money that Brady is fired before OSU. It's possible they let him coach the game but they announce it this week. I mean, when you have recruits announcing they are de-committing on Twitter DURING a game, you know it's gotten bad....

I felt sorry for Hoke at the end of the game tonight, I swear I saw a tear in the corner of his eye. He's had his dream job and now has seen it slip away from him. I'm sure he felt that if they beat MD and then pulled the big upset next week to finish 7-5 that he might get a reprieve and one more chance. I'm sure that now even he knows the jig is up.

Don't see it personally. What does it get you. Schlissel did more faster on Brandon than I thought he would, but I don't see a new coach in 7 days and the only guy I could see taking over the team as interim even for one game is Mattison, and I really don't think he would do it - he too big a Brady defender and he's old enough not to care what people think about it.

I'll bet that if UM does the "forward thinking" thing & hires someone from the spread-offense philosophy, or just anyone outside of the Michigan man/Bo coaching tree, the alumni & others who had a problem with Rich Rod & all the off the field stuff will keep their yaps shut. I was never a Rich Rod fan, specifically because he didn't win enough, & was fine with the firing. Things have fallen so far since then that the next coach should be given a clean slate & allowed to do pretty much anything he wants.

Yes...this...RR did a lousy job here, period. Blaming it on Bo's ghost or pointing to what RR did in WV or in Arizona really doesn't change that fact.

It's a different administration with Schlissel and Hackett in charge so I don't see how the past decisions of different people impact anything.

I think people need to be careful of wishing for Jim Harbaugh. Would it provide a huge shot in the arm for the program? Absolutely. Would it fire up recruiting? Probably. Would it last long term? I'm not sure. He's worn out his welcome in SF, by all accounts. Now, would that be different in college? Probably, but I think it would have to be the right situation for him at UM-the right administration in terms of an AD, etc. I think there is so much pressure on the school to get him that if they don't, the fan base is going to be incredibly disappointed. Tough spot to be in.
